I've own one of each, and I got to say, the PSP 3000 is the best. The screen is so more vivid, looks like HD. Plus, its controls are more responsive. If you was gonna buy one, I would recommend the PSP 3000.
I'll put it this way if those three games, MGS4, LBP, and Resistance 2 was coming out on the same day and I only had enough money for one....I would buy MGS4. But....
If you like...
FPS, go with Resistance 2.
Side-Scrolling/Puzzle, go with LBP.
Action/Adventure/Shooter/FPS(you can play MGS4 fully in fps mode), go with MGS4.
That might just be you, man. I still to this day find myself playing games for hours but I think that could be because I'm studying to become a game designer. BTW I'm 20.
