For top 3 I'd have to say the ones below.

1. Asheron's Call (Old game that is still going strong, player driven story lines)

2. Anarchy Online (Started off extremely buggy but turned out to be a great game)

Anarchy Online? Now THAT sounds interesting. What is it about? Does it have a pretty good following of players?

Well, AO is the best and very deep MMO on the market compared to the others.

It has so many things to do: quests, pvp on battle stations, pvp for controllin the land Notum towers; if you like the fantasy genre it has the beautiful Shadowlands, incredible character delopment through skills and perks; aliens who invaded the world of Rubi-Ka, etc.etc.

You'll never get bored with Anarchy Online. The only downside is that it's also an endless grind fest.

Anyway, here's my chart about MMOs:

2) Eve Online

3) Neocron (yes, it's still alive and its cyberpunk theme and pvp mechanics make it a winner)
