Sony doesn't make terrible products. I mean they aren't the bleeding edge masters they used to be but there market presense is snuffed due to their odd lack of advertising on their products.

The playstation division has a great market presence and advertising to boot, but hell when was the last time you seen anything else Advertised by Sony?

Capcom squandered the good faith I had for all the amazing series they published.

But they have been spiraling out of control for ages now, I do hope they can bring it back in form because I remember a day that I used to see Capcom on something I knew it was good. Nowdays I'm just not sure what terrible stuff lies in wait.

Shit like this and Silent Hills make me feel like a new age of horror could be coming, and the Resident Evil 4 era is ready to faceplant into the grave, because **** what that game did to the horror genre...**** it.

A: Resident Evil 4 is brilliant. Shitty games are not RE4's fault.

B: Let's be real, there were no expectations for an Alien game : P

A: **** the guys who tried to bill it as a horror game then.

B: I had massive hopes for Alien Isolation...

I do however feel for the game it had some astronomical expectations to live up to and for a developer who doesn't usually do this kind of shit they nailed it pretty hard when they wanted too. What killed it was the pacing after the first great section of the game, it falls into the typical trap of "More is better, so shits just gotta keep ramping up!"

They needed to focus on the one on one we had with the Alien, they needed to build on the tools we had making us more powerfull all the while making sure that every time we tried to show the Alien who was boss he would bitch slap us and show us what true terror really is and that no ammount of firepower was going to keep you safe.

As soon as you get that damn flamethrower the game just becomes a mad dash and flash whenever the alien gets too close. Mechanically it was great to show us growing in power but it defeated the purpose of the game, it made the one thing you were supposed to be terrified of even seeing an easy escape, less of something to be afraid of and more of something groan about as you aimed down the sights of your alien pepper spray.

If they were going to include fucking humans, make sure we had to use them to our advantage. Make it impossible to cross a god damn room without turning every other human into a screaming flank steak for the alien while you madly rushed to accomplish your goals amid a slaughter while avoiding becoming part of it yourself. Anroids? While it was fucking cool to watch the first one cave a guys head in, they were never a threat and only a threat as in that you couldn't confront them many times without pissing off the Alien.

All things considered though the start of the game is marvelous and I just wish they could have kept building on that. We all knew the whole predator prey thing would probably overstay its welcome and it did, the developers sadly just let it happen and didn't do anything about it. Instead they just throw more at your thinking it's somehow going to get better. I wholeheartedly recomend this to ANYONE who wants to know how horror in games should be done.

Just not the whole thing.

DRM, great idea and all but it's never been shown to deter and more often than not seems to encourage people to steal your game. Tons of games get by great, make millions, and never have to really worry about piracy unless their bean counters are trying to make excuses about how much money they "Could have" made if piracy didn't exist.

It's a utter unknown if Piracy wasn't possible how it would effect sales, all we know is that DRM is more often than not more of a nuisance to legitimate consumers than the people they are trying to stop.

Partway in myself playing it on hard (takes some getting used too but is rewarding in the end I feel as it gives the best experience.)

Without spoiling it for anyone it has a pretty slow uptake in the name of atmosphere, could cut it down in length and give more realistic options in the terms of distracting foes especially the human and synthetic foes as your options are extremly limited as doing anything and everything but the Alien has very dry AI and generally stands idle in place to block a pathway forcing you to look for ways around. Something as simple as being able to pick up and throw objects that litter the floor to distract human/synthetic eyes Flares work as a very good "Silent" distraction but tends to be unreliable sometimes at catching the eye of the person your trying to move while luring a guy from across the map back over.
It's a pretty lazy way to make the small levels feel larger, and only serves to go against the games theme that your trying to survive. Human foes don't even require you to kill them as the Alien will more often than not murder them for you as the AI doesn't seem to notice that any single person who ever fired a gun is dead within moments. You would think they would be a little less trigger happy.

I'm really nitpicking here but the AI of the Alien is top notch, it's unscripted pathing leads to deeply unsetling moments trying to navigate around not knowing wheter or not the vent behind you is going to decide that today is your last day. When the Alien is actively prowling a area itself it can be very nerve wracking to decide wether to forge forward while the alien charges (He really motors when he wants too especially considering you often encounter him in areas with lots of long tight corridors.

The only thing I could knock the Alien AI for is being inconsistent at times, I've walked right past him some times and others I've been far behind him to have him blitz me with supernatural awareness. The game needed more polish overall and I feel that it was at the end of the day pushed out the door before it was fully ready.

8/10 I really do hope we see a sequel with more fleshed out mechanics.

It's obvious Blizzard realized that they will never be able to repeat WoW's runaway fluke and trying is pointless.

Normal MMO's obviously don't churn out enough cash for Blizzard so they will stick to that microtransaction card game!

At the end of the day it's a big gamble that Microsoft has the resources to risk.

Minecraft could stop being cool any second, another game could come out and do the minecraft formula better before Microsoft can beat them to the Minecraft 2 punch. Minecraft is little more than a name, a lucrative name I'll admit but nobody plays minecraft because it's minecraft.

It doesn't take much to unhinge the swarm clinging to it right now.
