Bruh, the pvp has been a thing since the original Demon's. Stop focusing on ER like it only got popular there. With demon's dks1 and dks2, it was niche, but with DkS3 it wasn't niche at all, and its pvp'ers that keep these games alive way after the game released its last content drop. I get it, you hate it like literally everyone on SW, which ain't new, you're not the first i am having a convo with about pvp in Souls games. But you gotta remember, your opinion about it being bad is completely irrelevant because the scene is ONLY growing. If Fromsoft takes it more seriously in the next entry, and adds private servers, this thing will be big, and you're still gonna be covering your eyes, plugging your ears and bitch about it being bad🤷‍♂️

The fact that it was there since Demon's Souls isn't relevant. Your argument is nonsensical. It's popular, therefore it's better than Nioh which isn't popular. I'm sorry but what? You admitted yourself that Nioh has better combat outside of PvP, so clearly, popularity isn't the sole metric by which you judge quality.

Now, contextualize why Nioh's PvP isn't anywhere as popular as Elden Ring's...oh yeah, Elden Ring sold like 6-8x what Nioh sold. Again, the problem isn't whether one is bad or the other is good. The problem is that the way you framed your argument is utterly stupid.

Your entire premise is: Elden Ring has better combat because of better PvP because the PvP is more popular than Nioh even though Nioh's combat system is actually superior.

Bravo, champ. Wonderful logic.

Technically the first Lords of The Fallen (2014) was the first Souls-like and it didn't suck. We've had numerous decent Souls-likes since.

It most definitely did suck.

@hardwenzen: It can’t be dead with a 20M+ player base. How many copies did Nioh2 sell? 3M? That alone would slash its player count down to like 30K total across 3 platforms with 10K per platform. Has nothing to do with it not being good. You cannot sustain a healthy multiplayer community in a single player-focused game that sold 3-4M copies.

The fact that only 2% of total player deaths are from pvp despite it being mandatory for coop works against your point. In the grand scheme of things, the vast majority of the players don’t give a **** about PvP.

And that's that. You don't like it like 100% of everyone else on SW, but this isn't saying shit. If people spent hundreds or thousands of hours in ER pvp'ing (and it needs to be said, people do pvp for zero rewards, while gaming in 2023 is 100% centered around rewarding/progression for that dopamine hit. The fact that people don't give a shit, and just play it for fun, should tell you enough when it comes to the quality of its pvp), there's obviously something in there that people like. If it was dogshit like you're saying that it is, nobody would be wasting their time in it, just like in Nioh and now Wo Long.

And i am not seeing how me bringing roll catches has anything to do with roll spam. You couldn't roll spam in DkS2, but roll catches were always a thing. If you don't know the timings to roll catch, that's on you. Learn instead of bitching.

You genuinely sound like those pve'er on gamefaqs that i delete, sit on their dead body, and they send me a juicy wall of hate mail calling me all kind of names.

Pvp is what keeps me playing these games for hundreds and hundreds of hours. Remove it, and just like Sekiro, there's no content. So YES, when a certain combat system suxxx balls in pvp, its combat system becomes irrelevant.🤷‍♂️

According to From's data, 2% of player deaths are from other players so yes, 2% of the userbase at most bothered with PvP but when you've sold 20M, that's still 200K players. So nah, it sucks and isn't anywhere near as popular as you make it out to be. The game just sold so many copies that it was bound to be active.

You can't balance a game perfectly when the build system is this flexible. No balanced games offer this much flexibility. They've been releasing pvp only balance patches, and the current game isn't anywhere near as broken as it was at release.

The pvp is only getting bigger, and with ER, its actually big now, and they've even done tourneys on twitch. Nioh has a good combat system, but is completely dogshit spam fest in pvp. The difference between Souls pvp and Nioh pvp is that Souls pvp is very easy to follow even for someone who doesn't play the game, while Nioh's pvp looks like floaty spam, with zero balance at all. And if you're bitchin' about rolls spam in ER, you've clearly have never learned to roll catch, so that's your fault, not the game's fault.

It's still broken. Don't care how much.

Elden Ring sold 20M copies, I sure as hell hope the PVP is big.

The fact that you even brought up roll catch strengthens my point; the pvp is a roll spamfest. It's still fucking terrible so I have no idea what you're trying to claim here. "Elden Ring has better combat because of PvP" is just lolworthy when the PvP sucks.

That's great, glad to know your opion n all, but i've spent most likely 5k+ hours in it since the original demon's and a shitload of people are pvp'ing in ER over a year later, even tho there's no new content, so your opinion is obviously just that, your opinion.

The only thing that's awful is their servers, but since nobody in the god damn industry is able to offer better, you accept what's given and move on.

Nah, the PvP in Souls games is straight trash because it's designed as a single-player experience with PvP thrown in as a bonus. The balance is all over the place and it's just a spamfest of rolls as it's always been. If you call that good, that's your opinion but don't go shit on Nioh when Souls games aren't any better when it comes to PvP.

@ConanTheStoner: Are you playing any of them? As I recall, you’re not particularly interested in either.
