I know that you want money from advertisers. If I decide to see the video I'll mute the advertisement, ignore it, and resume to the content.

@Jedi-Kermit: Yo! This is still an issue! I'm on a desktop. Not some phone or tablet.

Please stop the forced automatic playing of videos in your articles. At least give us the option to turn off automatic playing of videos like so many other websites.

Yes, I answered your question fully. Get a 1080p source and hook it up and see if it doesnt automatically adjust the resolution to 1080i. If it doesnt, then they sent you the wrong tv and theres nothing wrong with that. :)freesafety13

That is incorrect. Up converting DVD players can output a true 1080P picture. The reason it doesn't look as good as a Blu-ray disc is disc space. DVDs can only hold a max of about 9 gigs while Blu-rays can hold a max of about 50 gigs. DVDs uses a lot more compression to fit a movie onto a disc than Blu-rays. Up converting mostly sharpens the picture a little bit from a 480P source to 1080P. 1080P is 1080P no matter what the source is.

Now to answer the original poster's question. It sounds like your TV can accept a 1080P image but will only display 720P. If you feed it a 480I source it will up convert it to 720P. If you feed it a 1080I or 1080P source. It will down convert to 720P. Hope this helps. If not I suggest going to www.avsforum.com for more recreational reading.

Component and HDMI both can do 1080P. The only real difference is that Component is Analog and HDMI is Digital. Blu ray will show up 1080P if your TV supports that resolution through both. As for standard DVD upscaling HDMI is your only option as the companies have designed the players only to upscale through HDMI and not component.
