@Jacanuk: The article was generally speaking about localized pollution.

If you politicize this as "see, we can quickly reverse the damage!", that would be two-fold idiotic. One, you're admitting there was a problem in the first place, or two, you're making an assumption about the planet simply from minuet hot spots.

???

Try reading the post again.

Morbid thought, but emissions are down huge time. Granted the results will likely be temporary, but I've read some studies saying that 80,000 or more deaths in china will be prevented due to less air pollution. Maybe mother nature is just reasserting who's boss.

Well, this is interesting but also going to play into both sides agenda neatly.

Climate change "deniers" will claim that this just proves how limited an effect humans have, and the other side will claim this proves how big an effect we have and how we should, of course, live like this forever.

But I must admit it´s pretty crazy to see some of the changes, especially around the hotspots like China, India and also even in Europe, the water getting so clear in Venice and fish and dolphins coming close to the city , is amazing.

The hypocrisy on both sides is not helping matters right now. Until everyone drops the politics out of this issue it will be hard for us to win and more people will die. Instead we still have a shit ton of finger pointing and he said she said bullshit that just needs to stop right now. I am sorry to say that life will go on after this and we do not need this to ruin our country. So people need to grow up.

Ya, the hypocrisy is mindblowing.

I mean Americans are dying and not just in small numbers but in a possible thousand and even the president is talking about 200.000 as a "good number"

No, it´s not a good number it´s a freaking terrible absolute hellish number, and everyone on both sides and the president should be locked in a room and not let out until they have forced a complete shutdown of the country,

Like we see in Europe, look at Germany, they are dealing with this like a well. oiled machine.

And interesting thing though, have people noticed how different countries with male leaders tackle this compared to ones with a female.

Maybe it´s time to finally have a female president.

"Let's stop looking at the death counters and let's talk about how we can keep as many people employed as possible," Nunes told Fox anchor Laura Ingraham. "That's the key right now, Laura, because if you don't, what you said earlier is correct. When you have people staying at home, not taking care of themselves, you will end up with a hell of a lot more people dying by other causes than you will by the coronavirus."

Oh wow Republicans suck.

The partisan bias is crazy.

What about the democratic governors and state legislatures that won´t close down travel or lock down an area, with more than "please stay home" words.

You think people will listen to a please? then you are more naive than Cuomo.

@Jacanuk: I hate Cuomo! 42% of all deaths and 40.2% of all cases are in New York. Just appalling!

Doesn't that have more to do with NY's density and location rather than Cuomo?

Not really, if London and Wuhan can do it, New York can do it as well.

Wuhan didn't do so well at first either. Not entirely sure about London though it's the hardest hit in England.

That was before the complete lockdown, look at the numbers in a week - 10 days time.

Their lockdown is what NY should have done/should do.

Ya, same here, I have good friends and family in NY, who for now are luckily doing fine, even though one is a nurse and on emergency staff.

Also, I hope your family is ok and well.

But you are correct a city is a perfect breeding ground, which is why if London can lockdown, New York can do the same, I get Cuomo wants to beat the big bad Trump and not agree to anything he says or suggests.

But is it really worth it ? is losing human lives really worth opposing Trump. Also, I do not get the media´s worship of Cuomo, he is doing a much much worse job than anyone in this country and instead of doing the right thing, he is fighting for ideals that will kill people.

As Obama said, History will not be kind to Cuomo.

Nurse and emergency staff? They will need a vacation after this. I'd say they have earned one. I wish them the best in these times.

So far they are doing well. Even if they stay clear of getting the virus, a healthcare system which is over capacity could give them other issues.

I have no idea why Cuomo haven't issued a statewide lockdown. Afraid of losing tax money perhaps?

Counted as emergency staff, so have to come to work. Which kinda goes without saying, but they are a nurse with normal long term care service.

And yes from what I hear it´s not easy and they still get the same pay. They should get at least double or triple.

Ya, Cuomo, I get that he wants to oppose Trump and also be hailed as the big democratic hero, but the bigger question is why isn't any doctors or WHO coming out and criticizing Cuomo, because he is really not doing a good job.

Yep, I do not get Cuomo.

42% and 40% is a lot and almost 20million in New York, the number can get much much worse.

So I get there will be problems but at least for goodness sake, close down travel in and outside the state. And stop calling other states like New Jersey who are stopping people from New York, fascists. Because they don´t want people from new york coming into their state.

New York will be catching up with the whole of Italy if this continues... In terms of confirmed cases.

Yup, and it will only get worse because they don´t want to "close down" and do a "Wuhan style Chinese lockdown"

I do get the whole "We are MURCIA and we are free and we do not impose Chinese communist rules" but when the whole world is doing the freaking same thing, NY has to close down, lock it down, enact martial law and arrest anyone who does not get that going out is not prohibited.

Just look at when the hospital ship came in, how many were down watching it come in.

A city is like a perfect breeding ground for this virus.

Damn it I got family there, some of which are in the high risk groups.

@LJS9502_basic: Was I speaking Greek? Trump enforces martial law on New York against Cuomo’s will and then files a federal lawsuit against him for jeopardizing the health of his people. Trump has the power to do that.

Cuomo: No lockdown or Wuhan styles controls!

Trump: *Beep* you! Imma do it anyway!

So you agree with Cuomo that everyone should be allowed to travel freely all over America?

If Cuomo is saying that he's an idiot...he should be telling them to stay home. That said martial law is a bit much IMO at this time.

Ya, that what he said on CNN and also going so far as saying that any infringement on that right would be a declaration of war. He also said any control of NY citizens would be reactionary policies and illegal from other states when they enter.

Cuomo is killing his citizens, so I don´t get why he is being hailed as a hero.

Imagine if NY had done a complete close down 14 days ago, then we may not have been at the point we are now.

200.000 death is also " a bit much so sure martial law would be a lot but thanks to the Supreme court the scope of it as seen in the video linked, have been limited a lot.

But I am all for a smaller scale if you could ensure a lockdown as seen in Germany or Europe, where everyone stays at home.
