Tolkien influenced fantasy in general as well as the original Warhammer. 40k is very much just a space version of Warhammer, but it did have a bit more originality. 40k heavily influenced Starcraft. After all, most of the guys who worked on it were nerds. Not only that, but Andy Chambers (big name for warhammer and 40k) now also works for Blizzard. So of course there is going to be a lot of similarities. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it's annoying to have people accuse other people of being f*ckers that love bad games.
