[QUOTE="Metamania"]No, he's saying, in his opinion, that it's a disaster just waiting to happen.

Grammaton-Cleric

But then Nintendo should be the Titanic and not the iceberg. Unless he means that the Titanic is the videogame business and Nintendo is going to sink it all.

The Titanic is a universally recognized metaphor for disaster.

I think you are dissecting the analogy a bit too deeply, unless you are simply being droll.

I understand that. And I think I understand what he/she/it wanted to say, but the way he/she/it worded it, did not make sense to me. Perhaps I am overthinking it.

Ugh, the WiiU is the iceberg lying in wait for the Titanic.

Metamania

So what are you saying? That the Wii-U is going to sink the Xbox 720 and the PS4?

Beyond these, I can't really think of many else. My main problem with RPGs have always been the following:

  • Level grinding
  • Losing EXP/Stats when you die
  • Poor Save Systems

Haziqonfire

Buy Xenoblade

If someone can "play/control the game wrong" then one can legitimately argue that the controls are not intuitive.

Pedro

Or that the player that is playing the game wrong is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Both arguments are valid.

Doesn't matter if there's more on the way or not. They aren't going to do well as whatever Nintendo comes up wtih next. The Wii is a system that's about to die out, thanks to lack of third-party development on it. It's not fiction, it's fact. The next game that anyone's really worried about, at this point, is Skyward Sword. After that, guess what everyone is going to think about next? That's right, the Wii U! So if Xenoblade makes it out there, sure, it's going to be bought by people, just not as much as a Nintendo game would. And nothing's wrong with my logic; there are some third-party games that DID do well in the past, but not as much as a Nintendo published/developed game did.

Metamania

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Xenoblade is developed and published by Nintendo. Or more specifically Monolith soft is the developer and they are owned by Nintendo. Xenoblade is a first party game, so it is a Nintendo game. If it was a 3rd party game we would not have this problem, someone else could have localized it.

My mistake, I apologize. But even so, even with the huge fan demand for it, Nintendo is still stubborn and saying "No." I don't know why they would do this if fans are clamoring for it. If I had a Wii, I would give it a shot myself, because I've enjoyed the Xeno series to an extent (Xenogears being the best in the series, IMO), but it's not important enough for me right now. But if it does get released over here, all the more joyful for fans that wanted it since day one!

No need to apologize. Someone needs to make a mistake so that I can be right :P

There is no point in using logic on this one I am afraid. Nintendo of America, just needs to remove some extra u's and they are done. They do not need to hire new voice actors, they do not need to to translate it, the work is already done.

And technically they did not say 'No', but they said 'we do not have any plans of localizing Xenoblade, Lost Story and Pandora's Tower. Which is marketing speak for 'Shut up and wait for Zelda'

I did not play Xenogears and the Xenosaga series, but those who did claim that Xenoblade is by far Monolith's best work. Nintendo actually gave them the budget to finish their game and refused to let them cut any corners. Which makes it even more baffling why they are not localizing it in North America.

You can still play it if you want, you just have to import and all that stuff.

lazyathew

Yes, but the problem is that Wii's are region blocked. So we will have to import another whole system as well. And that's expensive for just one game.

All it takes to make your Wii region free is a SD card and 10 minutes of your time. It is that easy. And it is not just one game, while you import Xenoblade you might as well get Disaster too.

Won't happen. Nintendo believes that their own games and products sell a lot more today on their consoles than a lot of the third-party games that are out there. This and the fact that it's true, since I've only seen parents and their kids come in and ask for specific Nintendo games while everything else gets left in the dust. BUT if it does happen, then I expect a limited printing out of it.

Metamania

Sorry, but I don't understand your logic... Are you saying it won't be published because it's not a Nintendo made game? So there will never be any more third party games for the Wii in NA at all? Well that's not true since there are still some on the way...

Despite the fan campaign, Nintendo has still decided that its not worth it to release Xenoblade or the Last Story. Shocking, I tells ya.

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/06/nintendo-of-america-hears-you-but-youre-still-not-getting-those-games-you-want/

"Thank you for your enthusiasm," Nintendo of America wrote on its official Facebook page in response. "We promised an update, so here it is. We never say 'never', but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!"

CarnageHeart

Nintendo knows all too well how well Monolith Soft keep costs under control for games aimed at niche audiences. **looks at Xenosaga** In all seriousness, Nintendo likes to gamble when there's a payoff, and there just isn't a payoff in this scenario.

This is probably all for the best, IMO. I'll always remember the greatness of Xenogears as I try to forget that horrors of Xenosaga.

I agree that based on Xenogears and Xenoblade, cost control is not Monolith Soft's strong suit, but Nintendo bought Monolith Soft and funded Xenoblade. The gamble of a US release is a small bet in comparison.

It is very small. The game is already translated in four languages and ready to be released in Europe. The game has an English and Japanese voice track, plus it has subtitles in the other languages. Nintendo of America only needs to remove the extra U's and they are done.

This is weird here I am playing Chrono Trigger for the first time on the Virtual Console because it was never released in Europe. Now the situation is reversed and America is not getting Xenoblade.

There is no excuse for not releasing it.

To end. Metroid Prime has a vocal following on the internet, but each game has sold less than the game before it (MP>MP2>MP3) so clearly most gamers are walking away unhappy. And saleswise, Other M plumbed new depths.

CarnageHeart

Not true Prime 3 outsold Prime 2.

In NA Prime 2 sold upwards to 800,000 (link) copies and Prime 3 sold almost 900,000 copies (link)

According to Wiki Metroid Prime 2 sold 1.29 million worldwide and Prime 3 sold 1.31 million worldwide. The Prime 3 number is from Nintendo's own financial report. Prime 2 number has no reference.

The graph below also claims that Prime 3 outsold Prime 2.

So MP2 eventually edged past MP3? Fair enough. I stand corrected.

I think you meant MP3 edged past MP2. Yes that is correct. But here is something more interesting. Metroid Prime sold over two million. If we combine the sales numbers of Prime 1, 2 and 3, we have a total of more than 4.6 million copies sold worldwide. By the end of March 2011 Donkey Kong Country Return has sold 4.96 million copies. Logic dictates that Retro will make Donkey Kong Country Returns 2 before they make another Metroid game.
