Why are we talking about Phil when today is the last day (at the time of this post) for Jim Ryan as he's leaving Sony today. Where's the thread for that? No retirement party at all?

Sony already threw him one at one of their internal studios and then shut that studio down less than a week later.

@girlusocrazy: I'd love to know why there's been such a slow rollout of UE5 games and whether that'll be addressed in any potential info dump.

Because UE5 is pretty much UE4, at least in terms of graphics apart from Nanite and Lumen; both are resource hogs. Also, I'm not a game dev or technical artist but if I'm not wrong, properly utilizing Nanite means changing the asset/production pipelines. Production budgets are already as high as they are, don't think they have the capacity to do those changes.

Epic provided a pretty efficient pipeline for transferring UE4 projects to UE5, but the farther a big project gets into development, the more teams have done little tweaks here and there and have created more bespoke features that make that transfer significantly more complicated, especially if teams have changed backend code in the engine (which is possible if you convert a UE projects to C++).

UE5.3 is the first version of the engine that I would consider even remotely stable, and what I think is the main culprit of not seeing more UE5 releases right now is that teams with in-progress games aren't seeing the benefit of spending the time converting their UE4 projects to UE5. As much as Epic wants to advertise that the transfer is a simple click of a button, it's very much not, unless you've been using UE4 exactly like they expect you to.

I think there will be a lot more UE5 projects a couple years from now.

@Pedro: Reading something in an angry tone doesn't mean it was written in one. The comment you responded to was me reading the room, realizing the OP wasn't worth engaging with, and stating that with reasons why.

I try to give people on the Internet a chance to tone themselves down when they realize the person they're conversing with isn't going to engage, as I've found that sometimes leads to a change of tone and an actual reasonable conversation; there are plenty of posters on this site that behave like jackasses to certain posters who meet them at their level but are otherwise reasonable people to discuss games with. It's easy to go into these types of conversations with shields up, ready to be attacked, and demonstrating a degree of reason and restraint sometimes calms people down. I have no qualms about giving people an extra chance to let their character speak for itself.

In this case, that wasn't going to happen, as evidenced by the OP's continued immature behavior, which is a totally acceptable thing to call out and something that can be done in a variety of emotional states, not exclusively negative or aggressive ones.

Given the language of that response, I do understand how you could come to that conclusion. But language is not the only factor that informs or dictates tone, and as the person on this side of the keyboard typing the words I'm posting, I'm aware of the emotional state I'm in while writing this, and it is not "riled up," nor have I been at any other point participating in this thread.

So again, at what point in this thread have I been riled up? Pointing to a comment I've made doesn't answer that question, it only demonstrates that you've made an assumption about my emotional state. In this case, it was an incorrect one, but I do understand how that assumption was reached.

@SecretPolice: I should have read your other replies before responding and realized that you have the emotional maturity of a third grader. Given that you interpreted every part of my response incorrectly, it seems you also have the intelligence of a third grader. Good luck.

Maybe you should read the room before getting riled up.

Would you please articulate at what point in this thread I have been riled up?

In my responses in this thread, I've asked for the article that the OP was citing, then used that article to provide evidence for why the topic was grasping at straws, and after the OP behaved like a child a second time, acknowledged that I realized engaging with this person was a waste of time. This is precisely why I'm responding to your reply and not the OP's.

At no point in any response in this thread was my emotional valence above or below 0. (I remember you stating you teach game development at the college level, so you should know what that means).

If my responses were read by other users in an inflection that suggested I was riled up, that's on them; I have no control over the tone other people read my posts, but at no point have I been anything close to resembling "riled up."

I saw something that was BS, I demonstrated why it was BS, and in doing so, realized the OP wasn't worth engaging with further. Then I carried on with my day.

Cheers.

"This year's debut trailer for Fable, which was released last year"

Source for this article? It doesn't even seem proofread.

Hiring more devs is not an indication a game is close to release, it's an indication that they hired more devs. Seems like a fan took some words and rearranged them to make them mean something that they don't mean.

OMG, I've been busted, I wrote this all from scratch. Don't' I look the fool. ;o

https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/gaming/microsoft-is-rapidly-working-on-fable-the-release-date-is-closer-than-expected/ar-BB1iLEGO

Read it and weep. Fable Rebbot >>>>> You. lolol :P

Thank you for providing the source, which I asked for without ever suggesting you made this up. Again, taking words to make them mean something they don't.

I maintain that the article wasn't proofread, as evidenced by stating that the trailer released this year and last year in the same sentence.

The source is a YouTuber who has a channel featuring reactions, speculation, and rumors. (AKA: opinions and guesses)

The only tangible fact presented in this article is that Playground Games is hiring, which is not an indication of anything other than that they are hiring.

This article is speculation and hearsay, and the writer of it even states that in saying, "If these speculations turn out to be correct"

Your response seems to be written with the assumption that I'm not excited about Fable, when you end it with "Fable Rebbot [sic] >>>>> You," which isn't even a tangible, measurable competition; I am a person. Fable is a video game. We're not competing for anything at all, nor will we ever be. And I'm quite excited about a new Fable game and hope Playground Games knocks it out of the park. It would be silly to wish ill on a studio and a game series that both have a passionate following.

Why you've chosen to take this personally is a mystery to me. All I've done is use the information presented in this post, and now the article that you shared, to provide supporting evidence that the claim Fable is coming out "sooner than you think" has no foundational basis in anything resembling truth or fact, and is based exclusively on tangential information that does not directly support that claim, using an article that explicitly states the information presented is speculation.

@IMAHAPYHIPPO: that's probably half of Xbox news. "Insiders" and buzz etc.

Pretty sure you're just describing the Internet; a bunch of opinions and straw-grasping masquerading as objective information.

@SecretPolice: Yeah.

I'll write what I want (in order) from Microsoft: (

  1. Gears 6
  2. Halo CE remake
  3. Halo 6 ? Halo 7? Halo 9? Halo Infinite 2? Whatever comes after Infinite
  4. Gears of War remake
  5. Doom 3? Doom 8 ? Whatever comes after Doom Eternal
  6. Elder Scrolls VI (at least we know this one is coming!)

Unfortunately it seems MS is to busy making games no one wants and Forza...

I don't have faith in Fable being any good.

Every one of those games is in development other than the Gears remake.
