I think this generation might be the longest yet, because development costs were all higher, and PS3 has had a slow start, and Sony plan for it to be a 10 year lifespan of a console.

I know (from wiki) PlayStation came out Japan in Dec 1994, North America and Europe in Sep 1995, it cost $299 on launch day, ceased production in 2006.

PS2 was announced in 1999, and launched in 2000 in Japan, but there were manufacturing problems. PS2 is still on sale today, and probably will stay in production longer than PS (2012 ? ).

PS3 was launched Nov 2006 in Japan and North America, and March 2007 in Europe, plus there were manufacturing difficulties. As it stands, PS3's sales growth rate is higher than PS2's for the same period of time (take from that whatever you want). I expect PS3 to stay alive for as long or longer than PS2, (probably be in production till at least 2018 ) because the money invested in it is a much larger amount.

PS4 will (if Sony keeps doing these kinds of increments in technology) cost even more to make, and will probably have holographic disc format, and real-time raytracing graphics hardware. If history serves as a good indicator, PS4 will be expected to come out about 5-6 years into the PS3's life, but because of the much bigger leap in technology, I think it will be more like 8-9 years. I don't think they will be 'doing a microsoft' and releasing a new console 3 years later, no way. I think developers still have a lot to learn about the Cell Broadband Engine, and all the tricks it can do before they start working on something completely different. Who knows, by then molecular computing or optical computing might be coming to the mainstream and there could be a revolutionary change in technology that makes the PS4 take even longer to come out.

I agree with all the statements here. PS3 has amazing capabilities. It is not a system which is based on what it has in it, most of the parts can be upgraded and it supports external hardware. The PS3's update system for its OS and for games also makes its life more durable and creates a nearly infinite supply of ideas and coding which can be implimented. I think that the use of updates to the PS3's software using the internet will increase its life span as new revolutionary coding ideas and techniques which increase as time goes on will keep the PS3 up to date with the times.

I hope this makes sense :o

And whats this end of the world thing? Wtf?!

O, Ok, got ya. Just misunderstood the full meaning. I knew you watched the shippuuden though, because it hasent even been dubbed in english yet (or it may be dubbed, just not released)

Good point though, all naruto games have been for the same series and no shippuuden ones have come out so I can see why people won't buy it. It still looks nice and plays nice though :)

Spyro for me aswell!! I remember getting spyro 2 when i was around 8yrs old and loving it. It took me around 10 weeks to finally complete it but it was the very first one i ever completed. I've also had a shot at it and clocked it again around 8months ago when I got the PS3 and had no games xD!!!

When I tried the demo, I was impressed by how well it turned out to be, its like the actual anime, very lively and well animated. Also, adding the Japanese voices was a definite plus cuz sorry I HATE the enlgish dub. Though its great, I won't get this, I prefer till they get into Shippudden and then I'll think about it.

Honestly though TC, I noticed your avatar and I'll tell you somthing, if Bleach comes out with a game in high def.... I WILL buy it the first day!

Really? I would have said that the shippuuden is not far enough into the story as only 6 akatsuki have been revealed and only 1 real main recent death has occured (This is for the Anime, not Manga)

Hey All, I have only been wathching Naruto for a month or 2 so far and I really like it. I have just seen to the end of season 2 (uk). I was wondering how far into the story this goes. I wanna get the game but I dont wanna ruin the story :SSpitmeout

Have you been watching english sub? If you want to get further on into the story while getting a better experience with Japanese voices (Way better than English voices, eng dubs suck!) go to www.myspacetv.com and search your episode subbed in english. This is how ive watched it and now im up to the most recent episode where Naruto is older and has been training with Jaraiya for 2yrs.

DONT REFORMAT!!!

I have had this exact same problem, and it took around 5mins for the login screen to show up. This was caused by firmware update 1.40-42 on some PS3's and it should easily be fixed with the newest update (It fixed itself for me anyways that way)

After I downloaded the 2.5 update it installed, restarted then prompted "Your file system is corrupt, playstation will now restore". It then restored, restarted again and gave me the same prompt again. I pressed OK, it did its restoring again and then it restarted. After this an "Updating Database" Prompt window came up, it updated and my PS3 has been fine ever since.
