Totally. I only buy games with mirrors on the cover. And only games that reflect my life, tastes, and preferences. In fact, if the game isn't about me getting up and going to work in a sprawling office, I am NOT interested.

(Also, to answer your question: Fable was about "be whatever hero you want," right? What better way to represent this than to have a double minority on the box. It was actually a smart way to encapsulate that complex idea. Also as to black people not giving a crap about who's on the box, obviously black people care, just like white people care. It means a lot to minorities to be represented in a society at large. Like, I cannot stress how important this is, historically and culturally. Maybe you're not from America, so you might not know.)
@noladem504: First, no one is talking about forcing non-white leads. We're talking about box art.
Second, minorities don't constitute anything like half of commercials or media. And if you look further and examine the roles, minorities and women are far more likely to play minor/supporting roles. It's well known that commercial media under-represents & provides stereotypical versions of their characters. Even if one isn't familiar with that fact, you can figure it out in under 5 minutes on Google Scholar by doing a neutrally worded search for "minority representation in advertising." Further, I noticed you ignored my point about the difference between light-skinned blacks, which are used to represent all black people, and the actual skin tones of black in America. So "half if not the majority of advertising" is so wrong it's laughable.
Third, as a comment on an article that discusses a reported situation of racial bias, it's pretty hard not to talk about race. I mean, we could just pretend that race doesn't exist, but that's a pretty dumb way to enable racism. I can acknowledge my own racial biases and preferences and I'm pretty comfortable talking about them. I'm sorry that you're not. Because if you think all the comments on this article are all fine and dandy, you've got a lot of growing up to do.
Lastly, can we just marvel for a second at how you said I was being hypocritical for calling people racist in the same post as you said making non-white characters was racist? I mean, damn, that's funny.
This is not surprising in the least. Ad execs are all about selling to the culture, regardless of it's morality. Look how long it took commercials in America to start using multi-racial families or dark skinned black people (as opposed to the Halle Berry complexion). The representation is still way below actual population.
I mean, the Microsoft guy isn't wrong. Gamers and society at large are still pretty racist and sexist. That much is apparent just by reading some of the comments on this article. But that's not to say it should be that way.
Would have loved to see some pictures that were more than 5 minutes from starting the game. Well, I mean, I don't care. I've built worlds in Minecraft. But as a reader, I would expect more than the title screen and opening credits from a review.
I'm pretty happy with this review, but I would have liked to have more about career mode, especially since it's the "deepest mode" of the game. Also, I read that EA was tweaking player growth to be higher, closer to FIFA 13 levels. Is this true? It would have been nice to get a little info on the differences between the last-gen and next-gen console experiences (sadly, I'll be getting it on PS3 first).
Also, does it play equally as well on PS4 as it does on XBox One? The beta test schedule I saw led me to believe that they coded it for XBox and then ported to the PS4 (again).
I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan ... but All the FFXIII games I found terrible, clunky, and boring. I wish they would stop faffing around with this boring character and boring world and go back to the drawing board. And while we wait for something more true to the series, a current-gen version of FF6 or FF7 would be excellent!
I'm happy about this, it's about time. When I leave the Gamespot site, it's usually because one of the comments sections has killed my faith in humanity. I like the writers and reviewers and I love how much thought they give their segments, so I would love to see Gamespot have the cool, supportive community that is deserves.
I agree with this Feedbackula. Honestly, I've always been a little disturbed by the responses in GS comments. Personal attacks on the reviewer are stupid and so childish. In some ways a 9 is high praise for Rockstar, because it's true they are held to a higher standard. If you are truly a GTA fan, you should be less concerned with a single review, and more concern with renewed efforts in the media to link GTA V to increased violence in our society. Also note, by savaging people with vitriol and hate sexism, you are contributing to that problem. Wanna be a good GTA fan? Be a fucking model citizen!
