I have schizophrenia and playing video games since the late 1980s has definitely made a difference in me being a happier person. Its also important to have a strong support system by going to a doctor for treatment along with the support of family and friends. A doctor can also help expand ones social network by connecting you to groups where mental health issues are discussed and you meet people who can also open new doors in many ways.

I remember when i first started going to the Bethesda official forums in 2002 when my mother was about to pass away and thanks to the unexpected friendships i made on the forums it helped me get through a tough time in my life where things blossomed greatly. Instead of isolating myself and getting worse video games and the internet kept my mind busy long enough for me and with the help of others to get my life back in order.

So for me video games helped along with the support of others.
