If I take my hard drive and put it into my friends xbox who has live, can I download the patch to play reg. xbox games?

I need a link to a site where it shows all the xbox games you can play on 360.

so you do or dont need live to play xbox games? And if you dont then how would they add new games to campat list?

 (this will determine wether to buy a PS3 or 360)

do you need live to play regular xbox games on 360 and when they add new compatible games do they mean they're adding the games so you can play on live?

In other words can i put in halo 2 in a 360 and play it normally, or do I have to download it off of live?
