I don't care for them. All they do is waste developers time/budget while showing me nothing significant about the product.
Except, you know, what the game will be about and the vibe that they're going for (most of the time).
I cant say I've seen many CGI trailers that give me a good idea for the game. Target renders sure, but that's a bit different. They're trying to show a representation of what they hope the final product will be.
If I don't see some sort of gameplay I'm not really interested. And when the visuals are far beyond what the game could possibly ever be then whats the point? Its pretty much just "hey, look at what this CG team did, pretty cool huh?"... often times these trailers arent even developed by the studio making the game.
I'm sure there are examples to support either side of the argument, but more often than not I find these trailers to be a waste.
I disagree completely but fine. Whatever, I wont argue, I'd be hitting my head against a wall for the next hour or so if I did except it wouldn't be as entertaining.
