I played DCUO in the beta, and I actually quite enjoyed it. I didn't pick it up because I just didn't feel like getting into an MMO at the time. Anyways, to anyone who still plays or played recently, what do you think? I've heard that the game has gotten a lot better after getting a new lead dev, I was thinking of picking it up sometime next month.

[QUOTE="DanielDust"]Nope, you can't exactly distribute a game that has only several megabytes :P. He also won't relase it on Steam or other places, because apparently they restrict what he wants to do with the game.James00715

I think that was just Steam. It will probably be on other download sites. Steam is only a problem, because he wants to add an ingame marketplace where players can sell their creations. Steam considers this DLC circumventing their platform.

Because games nowadays don't require your immagination.

Someone is dragging you through there world. In this game you can make your own world. I think it's a breath of fresh air more than anything.

It's not special per say it's just the only one in the market atm.

It's still limited though. You can build whatever you want, but still are limited by the rules he made for things. I'm waiting for mod support before I get into it. I want to be able to add new items to craft with their own custom scripting. Maybe even add some sort of physics system so you can build airplanes and fly around. The game isn't there yet, so I wait patiently.

Well, to be fair, there are a large variety of mods available. Some let you build planes and fly around.

Yep. Mine gets to higher degrees than when I run GTAIV with the iCEnhancer mod. It gets my 560Ti to about 65 degrees. Which is not good considering the temps for some other games.Imguessing they will release something for it but right now I can almost bake inside my case

When I first read that, I imagined you lighting up a joint inside your case

But yeah, seems like quite a few people are having problems with it. Hopefully a patch is released soon.

Does anyone know if or when they plan to fix the issues with overheating?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but apparently the game is ridiculously GPU intensive and heats up quite fast, or so I've gathered from a few posts on the steam forums. My PC felt like it was going to explode last time so I'm afraid of launching Dead Island again. >_>

-I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about the looting that I find tedious. Opening suitcases and such feels more like a chore than rewarding, which is odd.

Is this because you just don't like looting like this in games or because its crap in Dead Island? Im genuinely curious because in games like Fallout 3 and The witcher 2, searching and looting isn't that tedious even though it should get very repetitive and boring very fast.

Nah, I've never had a problem with looting. It's just that it feels kind of sluggish and the start of the game is literally filled with suitcases that you can open. I should mention I'm not the only one to complain about it though. Strange.

Okay, despite the horrible launch problems, I feel like sharing my initial thoughts on the game.

The good:

-The melee combat is simply a lot of fun. Honestly, when I first saw gameplay videos, it looked very clunky, but it feels great in game.

-The island is a lot bigger than I expected. There looks like there's a lot to explore, and the island has been nicely varied so far.

-Modding and creating weapons is a neat system.

-Have you ever jump kicked a zombie into a swimming pool or the ocean, resulting in said zombie drowning? Well, it's awesome.

-It's a lengthy game, and there are plenty of sidequests to keep you busy.

-Like I already mentioned, combat is a lot of fun, and there are a LOT of zombies for you to kill.

The bad:

-The characters aren't very interesting or likeable, if you ask me. The story is a bit weak as well, but that shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

-Glitchy. We're getting patches, but still. Glitchy.

-Voice acting is a bit funny, but eh, not too big of an issue.

-I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's something about the looting that I find tedious. Opening suitcases and such feels more like a chore than rewarding, which is odd.

So overall? I am really enjoying this game. It's a pleasant surprise, and even though it may lack a little bit of polish, it's simply fun. The characters may be meh, but they don't really get in the way of my enjoyment of the game. I'm looking forward to playing more.

Have to go with the majority and say WoW, but I think I'm burnt out now. It was a good run though.

I'm probably going to be playing this somewhere down the road, but I have to agree, very underwhelming trailer, especially after the last two Battlefield 3 trailers.
