Well, this is positive I guess. Although, they may be thinking that they can always ruin their console at a later time, when enough people have already bought it.
I never hated the CoD games. They have good shooting and good graphics and descent storytelling. My question is, is that what the new generation of consoles will bring us? Better graphics? Yawn...
I'm actually relieved to hear things like this. I mean, now that new consoles are coming out, we are all confronted with questions like 'which console should I buy', 'can I afford it', 'how much will the games cost'?
It's just nice when the console manufacturers make those decisions for you.
I know I can. But like I said, the menus will still be cluttered with 'sharing' and 'connecting' and 'facebook' and 'microtransaction' features, constantly reminding me of the real world. Reminding me of all the issues and idiots that I wanted to get away from in the first place.
And over time, developers will start emphasizing those features, like making games so hard you cannot effectively complete them without resorting to microtransaction, or throwing your friends' scores on the screen all the time to encourage facebook sharing.
To me, ignoring those features is as hard as ignoring a big screen TV in a restaurant. Keeping my eyes away from it is a constant effort. It WILL affect my experience negatively, whether I watch it or not.
I REALLY don't like the emphasis on social networking on the next-gen consoles. I play games to get AWAY from people. When I'm in a social mood, I go out.
I know that I'm free NOT to use the social feature if I don't want to, but it's a simple fact that the developers will spend time developing them... time that could be spent developing actual GAME features. And... I also get the feeling that all in-game menus will be cluttered with 'sharing' options...
I imagine the rest of the games industry watch this game, shake their heads and say to each other 'this will never sell. it is not even close to resembling Call of Duty.'
As we study this subject further, the following conclusions will be drawn:
1) People who are already prone to violent behavior tend to play more violent games.
2) Violent games can cause violent behavior in a subset of children and young adults. No safe conclusions can be drawn about who will be affected, but already violent people are more easily affected. Also, young children are affected more easily than young adults.
3) For a small subset of violent people, playing violent games is an outlet for negative energy and they function better if they have access to violent games to some extent.
4) There will never be a good way to predict how a person will respond to violent games.
If you really want to get into that method, try cognitive behavior therapy. I did it as an online therapy course. That was in Sweden, but I'm sure they have them wherever you live.
