I'm ok with paying extra for Mass Effect... I'm not ok with paying half price for Street Fighter anything for a while. However, for 98% of games, I don't think it's unreasonable to get (for $60) everything that happens throughout a story. If you want to flesh out parts after the main story or before the story even begins, I'm ok with that. I'd just appreciate it if I can have my whole story, unadulterated, for $60.

... But wait, who is James Vega? I was looking for some insight into why he's in the game at all. Not that he's a bad character, it's just that You've got a whole group of people in your squad who make sense. Liara, Garrus, EDI, Ashley or Kaiden, Tali... Even the character from "From Ashes" has more backstory explaining why he's there. It's like this big party of who's who and this one guy who got stuck on the ship when you left Earth. You've got the Shadow Broker, Military consultant on Reapers, the only good AI in the galaxy aside from Legion, a rather accomplished marine (not spoiling important status change) and possible old flame, and a Quarian who is named after your ship. Then you have the last surviving member of an ancient race that just might save your ass cause they were so smart. Aaaand this burly marine. One of these is not like the others.

I don't know about the Gears of War thing. Yes, some people assert that the trailer was off tone with the game but I just don't see it. Sure "Mad World" is kind of melodic compared to the style of the game but I kind of always got the impression that it was to emphasize the actual words of the song by contrast. A world with chainsaw bayonettes and terrible ghost-boogeymen is not a "Mad World"? Gears isn't filled with "worn out places/worn out faces?" You really think that the people in Gears don't wish that were dead? (The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had) And then the Rendezvous with Death was had a crazy feverish drum in the back leading up to Marcus' bold charge. He looks like a guy who knows he might die but is going for it anyway. And I think Mad World playing at the end of Act 3 in Gears 3 was probably the best pairing of music and situation I've ever seen. I just feel like the music filled the situations perfectly. So who thinks it was a bad idea? Were you expecting more Dream sequences? I feel like the only expectation that could have let these people down is that Gears wasn't Silent Hill enough. But I can't see it. Cole's very personality is based on morale building and Baird's mouth runs most when he's anxious. Frick, Cole still writes his mom despite her being dead for 10 years. Their behavior doesn't show it when they're being shot at but it makes sense. They're soldiers and they have to keep it in check or they might die.

@WCK619 And you're so easily amused, talking to yourself over there. Go troll elsewhere. Most of these are so so. I like the Bigger Giants and I liked the Open Cities mod from Oblivion. We're still at the beginning of mods here. It's only a matter of time before we see things truly amazing. My personal favorite so far was the Mod that allowed you to use a Microphone to use shouts. You say something in the Dovah and it does whatever it was that you said.

There's only really two problems I have with lower rated games. A game might be fun but lacking polish. In that case, I don't think it's necessarily worth the price tag that a fun and polished game gets at $60. Secondly, I only have so much time to play games. I want to play the best games first, THEN play other games. I've got nothing against bad ratings or anything. I've liked quite a few games that people didn't like. I remember being the first person to play a lot of crappy games and then seeing them become rather successful franchises. But I've grown up since then too and don't have the time I had to play every game that came out (and certainly not with the volume of games these days).

I don't know if I'd say this "broached the topic" but I have to say that Final Fantasy X still said a great deal about how we see religion. Yevon was believable in the same way that if you could have a place like Middle-Earth, Sauron would be believable. And yet it wasn't real. And I think it says a lot about how much of faith we really do take on faith.

@Spippy I'll believe it when I see it. They said that for the Wii too. They were true to their word but let's be realistic about this, Those games did not turn out the way we were lead to believe they would.

The atmosphere in Gears 1 was so much gloomier and I think that was part of what sold it in the first place. We wanted to run around with a Lancer fighting the boogey man in a world teetering on the edge. On the one hand, gears 2 does let you see a lot more. It's more beautiful and it's a lot easier to figure out who you're shooting at... but at the same time it's more beautiful and lets you see who you're shooting at. The things that go bump in the night aren't as scary in the light and I want to play Gears of War, not Gears of Persia...

there's a new ICO coming out!? I'm also looking forward to GOW3, by then I may be considering a PS3. I am sort of hoping that it'll go cross platform though.

So in this set, once again it seems the 360 works a little better... though the PS3 has it's strong points too, like large amounts of computations (the stands look fuller, for instance). Eventually 360 owners will need to buy the next generation of Xbox but the PS3 will still manage just fine. The PS3 still needs to survive that long though thats not as questionable as it it once was and it's debatable how well it'll stack up to the "average" console of 2 years from now. *shrug* So far my only regret is not playing MGS4 so until something else changes, I'm good with not shelling out $300 for one game.
