Price point-wise it's too late.

DRM-wise, they created this whole system to charge used games, I doubt they can just abandon it after they've already set things into motion.

They've basically screwed the pooch on this one, both by trying to make their console into this cable box monstrosity resulting in the whole DDR3 ESRAM bullcrap which ultimately hurt the console's performance, and hurt themselves in terms of price point by including Kinect which a lot of people don't care about.

It's not like they can redesign and relaunch at this point.

In the end this is probably good for retailers as everybody from gamestop to bestbuy to Amazon are selling used games. Publishers want to sell the same game twice and it's good at least somebody said no.

Publishers and developers have seen two weeks' worth of public reaction to this machine. That Microsoft could coerce or somehow buy their loyalty is seriously doubtful at this point, as everyone knows this thing is a train wreck, except for perhaps MS.

Publishers and developers are soon going to be most concerned with not getting hit by the spray when it detonates.

You are seriously saying that Publishers care what gamers think? They dont give a f*ck. All they care about is killing used games sales. They dont look at hard data that says 70% of trade-ins go towards new games purchases. They live in a bubble. They WILL take the free cash MS is giving them and show off PS4 versions at Gamescom and TGS. I am sorry but this has MS written all over it.

Not surprising but it's not a good for a company to have a culture of trying to sabotage competitors both outside and inside (you have plenty of MS managers trying to sabotage each other's projects resulting in a lot of innovations being stymied), probably bad for the industry as well as you have publishers who should be showcasing their games on a console their games will end up on not giving their games the necessary exposure just for short-term gain, not realizing that this can jeopardize the viability of the IPs in the long run.

$499 for an xbox, either Sony is going to be stupid enough to follow suit (quite possible) or Kinect is going to screw the pooch for MS.
