I always wonder, where are all of the conservative comedians? cybrcatter

They are shut out of almost all cable channels, especially those owned by Disney, NBC (General Electric), and MTV Networks (a.k.a. Viacom) which is who owns Comedy Central.

In response to Stewart's usual, one-sided idiocy, there is a difference between so-called "Islamophobia" and simply calling a spade a spade. When organizations and individuals all over the world consistently commit barbaric atrocities against foreign nations and violently oppress their own people in the name of "Islam," it starts to look like a spade after a while. What we are seeing is more and more people in developed countries who are willing to call it a spade. The "it's just the extremists" argument has run its course; unless the oft-alluded-to "moderate" Muslims break their silence and make a visible, concerted effort to overthrow the extremists who dominate their religion and destroy its image, there is no reason to suppose that much moderation exists at all in Islam, or at least not in the majority of its adherents.

Listen to them on youtube first. You can find just about any song on there, even songs from obscure bands. While I am an avid proponent of intellectual property rights and very much against illegal downloading, I believe we should have the right to hear an entire song or an entire album before deciding whether or not to buy it. I mean, why should I pay for an album or a song if I don't even know what I'm getting? Would that fly in any other area of consumerism? Would you buy a lamp to put in your bedroom if you weren't allowed to see what it looked like before you bought it? Of course not. If bands have faith in the music they make, they shouldn't care whether people hear it before buying it.

I always listen to an album before I buy it; I'm a huge musician, and the quality of the music I pay money for is very important to me. I listen to an album on youtube, or somewhere else on the internet, or borrow from a friend before making a decision (though there are a few exceptions for bands who I know will produce extremely high quality material such as Porcupine Tree or Tool, to name a couple). If I think the musical product is deserving of my money, I will buy it immediately. If I don't think it's worthy of my money, I'll turn it off and never listen to it again.

This is a simple thread, but you bring up a very good point.

people are gonna get sued left and right and everyone will be in an uproar and they will realize how retarted they are.. I hope thats what happens if this bull crap gets signed.. if it does, we have the most retarded government known to man.. SLUSHiNaToR

That's not how you spell retarded.

And this is great news. I'm all for people getting credit, compensation, and protection for their intellectual property. But honestly, how are they going to "more strictly enforce" it? This just seems like rhetoric to me. If there was a way to enforce copyright protection laws against millions of internet users "more strictly" than have been for the past ten or so years, A) they would already be doing it, and B) I would know about it, because my firm is heavily involved in IP litigation.

Until internet service providers start actively monitoring and restricting the content their customers can download, none of you have anything more to worry about.

You'd have to replace her with Hitler for me to be disappointed.

Ok, you're right. We'll just ignore those facts. They are a bit inconvenient.

Well, you did ignore pretty much the entire thread.

There was nothing of substance to ignore.

He's not shooting himself in the foot; if this is true, it's one of the only things he has done that I agree with. America already has the highest corporate tax rate in the world at 39.6%. The rest of the world laughs at the way we cripple our own industries. Taxes on business should be cut way more.

mattbbpl

I'm no expert, but that doesn't appear to be entirely accurate.

Oh, you're right. It appears Japan and Syria have increased their rate into the 40th percentile. When you tack on the average state corporate tax rate here though, it's still the highest in the world. Did you not see that?

I haven't read through all the pages of this thread, but has anyone mentioned that the second woman in the original post was assassinated by Muslim radicals? And has anyone mentioned that one of her chief "crimes against Islam" as declared by Baitullah Mehsud (the mastermind of her assassination) was the furthering of women's rights in the Middle East?
