Not really...its just an extra chip set. What made the PS3 so high was the new Blu-Ray technlogy....which they actually undersold at the time.
The removal of the PS2 compatibility due to cutting back on production cost was a bullshit excuse. Shortly before introducing those models, a report came out about how profitable the PS2 hardware was still to Sony.
Think about it. Even on the digital scale, it didn't stop Sony from making the Vita backwards compatible and they're even adding an internal hardddrive to the new models like the PSPGo did. Now why do you think they didn't do that in the first place?
Because it was more profitable to sell their overpriced memory cards that was mandetory for booting games and that they only manufacture!
Mine is a PS3 launch model and PS3 super slim. I bought the super slim in the case that I get another YLOD. I refuse to let go of my launch model with all of its backwards compatibility
They say that can't but I'm saying they simply won't. I think a better analogy would be its for the same reason they removed the PS2 compatibility. Sony still wanted to sell PS2s...hell FIFA '14 just became the last title for it.
