Well pleased with the game, and as a long time player of the franchise, glitches/crashes are just something I call, "Bethesda!". But they now include the auto saves, which is a great improvement over the Morrowind days.

The world looks good. Dungeons now are unique (not simple clones like in Oblivion). But what I really like is the sense of adventure this franchise offers -- total freedom to not even play the storyline, even (my favorite game of all time IS Deus Ex, so what do you expect???). Love just romping around on my horse, travel up cliffs and mountains and enjoying the scenery below. This time the scenery really looks life-like, right down to the lighting from dawn, midday, dusk. Finally, feel like an explorer and not feel rushed to some linear end. Will get there on my time, not forced there.

The classless talent system also is amazing. Play EQ2 and have always associated a RPG by the vastness of options. The options are good, and now can make a paladin like character to blend the best of all these MMOs into one paladin like class. So thrilled by not being locked down by class limitations -- you can heal like a true healer in plate, even.

There's minor annoyances here and there, but overall I rate it as the best game I purchased in 2 years at least, and sure getting my money's worth. Pleasantly pleased. Skyrim will remain on my computer, definitely.

You betcha. Play in on a Intel 2600k/Windows 7 64bit/ATI HD6970 system. Some games just never get "old". If you are into exploration and using items for unconventional persuits (e.g., gas canister climbing the statute of Liberty), DX can last easily 135hrs. Not a mistype, 135hrs. Those claiming they can get the game done in 8hrs are missing everything to race to the end. A good full DX game run at a decent clip is about 60hrs. If you want to sniper slowly and have over 92 7.62mm rounds left at the end of game (true, "one shot one kill"), it'll be more like 80hrs. Just don't make games like DX anymore. :(

[QUOTE="danjammer69"]

Someone should play taps for the death of my thread.

Geeze, this is why i don't ever post in GGD.

Do like the theme. Loved the BF2142 version of it a-l-o-t. Ironically, downloading BF:Bad Company 2 as it is. Been 4 years since I've played, but inching to get in on BF3 with Co-op play. :)

The only DX I like is the original. It's the best of all time.

Currently it's bugged filled (beta testing on live servers, literally they're releasing beta patches on live servers). Many of the bugs won't be fixed until after Cata.

Best bet is to wait a month at least until the bugs are mostly fixed if you're coming back after 6+ months, or a new player. It'll save you the pain of every week or another week of your class abilities being tweaked or trashed.

Some of the changes...

  1. 41 talent points (yes from 71, WoW has been XBoxed) at 85. You must put in 31 talent points in one tree to unlock the others.
  2. New glyph tiers: learn them once, permanent now, so you can switch as needed-- Prime/Major/Minor.
  3. Stats have changed: armor penetration and defense are gone. Introduction of the plate specialization (5% buff in a primary spec tree) and Mastery (spec bonus depending on class and spec tree). Spirit replaces MP5 (though exists still in calculating average mana regen over 5 seconds). Paladins gained a new power system (Holy power) tied to damage and healing spells (free no mana cost damage or heals).
  4. Almost every class now has a minor self-heal. Hunters can heal over time.
  5. Hunters don't use ammo anymore. Arrows and shot are gone, so are the quivers and ammo bags.
  6. CC is back in force. Cata will require it, as heroics aren't going to be easy. Hunters will be using their traps and mages iceblocking.
  7. Tanks have issues of holding aggro (consecration won't hold it anymore, you will have to work on it). Forget any WoTLK idea of holding aggro.
  8. Tanks will jump from around 55k raid buff average health points now to around 200k raid buffed in Cata (we're talking a huge jump in stats). This is due to how damage is going to be delt in Cata. It won't be fast and furious, but sustained.
  9. Healers will be forced to manage mana (no more stacking stats, very hard stop on that practice). Healing classes got a complete overhaul. Healadins have been totally revamped, and now have limited raid healing abilities.
  10. Mana matters. No more room pulling. Casters and healers will be strapped for mana. You will have to wait as both drink and drink and drink (mana tools also have long cool downs).

Theme of Cata is WoTLK was easy, now you're going to pay...dearly.

Everytime I link to that site now, and IGN, I get referred back to the support pages.

Is Direct2Drive site itself down?

Everyone from the gamespot reviewer to PC Gamer editors to people on amazon.com have written on how they feel that this particular DRM hampers the experience for legit Buyers.

kokonut1971
It does. But what I don't understand is why folks are so upset about it, now. Ubisoft has been known to be aggressive with DRM. I have the Silent Hunter III game, and even it required an internet connection or some hookey random offline key to play. What I learn from that experience is not to buy Ubisoft titles, or any that limit installs. Want my money? Publishers need not hassle those who do pay. If they do, I have DRM free games all the way back to the 80s to play with. Gaming population is aging, and won't put up with the "we do as we please" crap for long.

What many Pc users find fault is being told that a company will not release any mod tools and that they plan on releasing DLC instead.

jedikevin2
^^ THIS ^^ I love the mod tools for the F.E.A.R. game (they work; don't crash; you can create 3D models to add to your mods pretty easily; texture them and repackage without some inane steps other tools require). BUT, if you want to edit the animations for your own skits and making new Replicas and such, forget it. You can export and even import, but without keys. That aspect is essentially worthless. Modding prolongs a gamer's interest in a game. Without them gamers wouldn't stay and even care about any franchise, chasing the latest pixel title, instead.

Do yourself a favor, bypass this game and it's sequels. Good concept, terribad execution...and the worst camera in gaming. Played the whole NW2 series and ditched it. Glitchy, buggy, and production values you expect from a mod (okay, some mods are produced better). In fact, some of the mods that made for the game were incorporated in it in the last expansion, only to gum it up worse (as the devs just had to remove some of the features out, causing more bugs). You want to play, not spend the night troubleshooting CTDs; lag; and other issues that keep you from playing, and not feel like an alpha tester.

Deus Ex. Every other game I play as some time sink. DX satisfies shooting, diplomancy and stealth. Hybrids, FTW.
