I see so this was been a very active community back then. So what happened with Gamespot to lose so much users?

Look for yourself;

http://web.archive.org/web/20090802230702/http://www.gamespot.com/

Notice all the extra features?

The minimal ads?

How everything wasn't left-aligned?

The old-school retro look, apparently it was better before but I only joined in 06.

Even the addition of extra boards (you need to look for yourself or I'll get banned for saying it), I'll just say "Adult boards"

Man, those were the days. Way too cluttered for what people look for now though.

GameSpot's E3 Coverage was second to none during that generation too. It was a heck of a time.

I'm old now. I pop my head in from time to time, but I don't see anything to keep me engaged. I primarily just recruit writers for my site.

@Cloud_imperium: It's the last one with Nathan Drake as the main character. Nothing else has been said other than that.

And The Last of Us is nothing remotely similar to Uncharted.

They should, especially if it's a scene you've already seen. There are a lot of games out there, primarily RPG's, that forcefeed you these clips right before a boss, and while they can be grand spectacles, they're also really annoying.

At that, long animations for attacks should also be skippable.

My main complaint is the lack of a true search option. I appreciate the levels everybody is making, but I don't want to have to go on my phone or laptop to search for a level made by second/third-party developer.

If you find value in handheld gaming, it's a no brainer. Super Mario 3D Land, Fire Emblem: Awakening, the remakes of the N64 Zelda games, Bravely Default, and a handful of other games really show the quality and longevity of the system.

We don't even know what the NX will be capable of, so until then, the 3DS is more than enough to fill the void you supposedly have.

I haven't actually done a lot of research on the game. All I remember was we saw at E3, which was pretty much Mario Party with Animal Crossing characters.

As an Amiibo collector, I want it because of them, but I really don't envision this title being worth the $60. That, and I don't have an interest in collecting the cards.

Which of your staff members are going? I'd love to get a picture with whoever's there.

It'll be my first Comic-Con, so I can't really pinpoint what I'm excited for yet. I'll definitely be in line for some screenings and exclusives though!

As an old-school gamer, you're right that there's no sense of place or setting. But that's what Mario is all about.

I'm not discounting the quality of games like Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy, they're all excellent, but Super Mario 3D World is old-school Mario, modernized to be the best it can be.

It begs the question if you've ever even bothered playing any of the sidescrolling marquee Mario games because that's the exact formula Mario 3D World followed. We're literally talking about the father of platforming going back to its roots.

Who cares if he doesn't randomly end up in outer space?

I think A Link Between Worlds is probably the best recent example, especially since Skyward Sword before it was hand-holding for about 4 hours at the beginning.
