Well I guess I finally get to enjoy the fruits of Microsoft's piss-poor hardware.

My original 360 finally succumbed to the RRoD while browsing the auction house in Forza 2 ~3 weeks ago. Called support, got a repair ticket, sent in the 360 on July 28th and got my refurb unit back on Aug. 7th.

The first day was fine. This new refurb seems to have a better, less fussy DVD drive than my old one. However just one day later, it takes me one or two tries to finally get it to boot properly. Either I get E74 error code with the fourth quadrant of the ring blinking red, or... nothing. It doesn't boot it just sits there, fans whirling away pointlessly until I turn it off.

Thing is, once I get it to boot, it runs beautifully. No crashes, the DVD drive is quieter and more reliable than my old one (which would inexplicably speed up/slow down during loads sometimes, causing longer load times or in streaming games like GTA IV, extra pop-ups or short freezes) and no freezing.

I'm a little worried that I'm going to send this sucker in again, get another unit back from Microsoft that boots properly but has a piss-poor DVD drive that vibrates, gives read errors and generally sucks. On the other hand, who knows how long before this current 360 completely bows to this E74 error?

I told myself I wouldn't become one of those people who have returned 3-4-5+ units to Microsoft because they keep getting craptastic refurbs. I would rather sell all my 360 equipment and games, and be done with it. Yet, I really don't want to start over with a PS3, and there is no way my Wii is going to satisfy my gaming needs.

Oh Microsoft, you have screwed me on so many products (except my Intellimouse Optical, which has lasted a decade). Yet I keep coming back for more. All my friends say I should move on. I wish I knew how to quit you.

In the US the PS3 is catching up but there are still 2x or more 360 on the market I believe, so it seems like plenty of reason to continue 360 support.

Considering the outrageous prices of BD discs, I'm perfectly fine with upscaled DVD for now. BD just piles on a lot more useless features that I already ignore on all but maybe 1% of DVDs I watch, like commentary, extra scenes, behind-the-scenes and etc.

Well I always said Blu-ray and the costs/delays it caused is the reason Sony lost my next-gen sale to Microsoft even though I was not much of a fan of the original Xbox. However, I'm currently entangled in Microsoft's next-gen blooper: shoddy hardware, specifically, the RRoD. I refuse to be caught in the nightmare of shoddy refurb replacements, if my replacement 360 dies on me I will get it replaced then promptly sell it and go back to Sony.

[QUOTE="Corvin"]

7.0 - 7.5

I think the game will be dinged points for repetetive/unintuitive gameplay, iffy graphics and framerate, and poorly implemented multiplayer. Plusses will be the game's cinematic qualities, and maybe musical score and story.

Poorly implemented multiplayer because of 2 player support and not 4, or for something else?

Lack of 4 player is pretty disappointing, but I've also read early previews which complained about the lack of mapping, or pointers to find where the other player is, little incentive to stick together for co-op, and with no story to keep things pasted together things feel kind of disjointed. Also I'm not sure if this game has local multiplayer or not, I used to love hack-n-slash like Baldur's Gate and Champions of Norrath on PS2 with a friend hanging out, it would be a shame to miss that in Too Human.

Neither. These music games and their endless peripherials are getting out of control. I'll stick with my single plastic guitar, and a friend already has the original Rock Band if a bunch of us feel like getting our plastic instruments on.

I'd say Too Human. The demo didn't get me terribly excited. Fable 2 looks promising but I'd like to see a demo, I'm not sure they have one planned.

Considering its still going so strong, I'd say the PS2 is this generation's PS2.

Meh. All I want from Nintendo now is a stand-alone Wii Bowling. Then my Wii library will truly be complete.

I find it fairly disappointing that Nintendo already has to put out a new device to try and improve the motion sensing for the Wiimote.
