@hahaaomghedidit: No, he just doesn't care and the schools don't make it a point to cover it in such a way that might make it seem important enough to warrant attention. You can thank government run schools for that.

@zezima: The US, I never once read or learned about any war pre WW2 in my history courses while in school. It wasn't until my own private studies did I really learn anything about WW1 or 2. Shoot even the Korean and Vietnam wars were just a few sentences of info, I think the only war that they covered with any detail was the Gulf War but even that just went over the highlights.

Strangely enough, I had a conversation with my little brother (age 17) the other day about Battlefield 1 and he had said exactly that, that he had no clue which war this was supposed to take place in. He was still interested in playing regardless but EA might have had a point.

Well deserved because the game is pretty awesome. I was never really interested in the historical versions of Total War but bringing the Warhammer IP made me take notice and I'm glad it turned out well.

Witcher 3, no doubt about it is go to game of the year. I was absolutely certain that MGS5 would win but it completely fell apart toward the end. While I do think MGS5 has the better gameplay, Witcher is stronger everywhere else.

Great review, I have been playing EVE Online for about a year now and really once you cross that initial learning cliff (it is more a cliff then a curve) that everyone will hit and embrace the game it is impossible to put it down. It is easily one of the most emotion inducing games I have ever played. The reason I say emotion inducing is because at the drop of the hat the game can go from tedious to frighteningly fighting for your life in seconds. Going into low security space for the first time, with the full intention of living there was probably one of the daunting moments I have had in gaming and also one of the most rewarding once you see your income skyrocket. Knowing you can lose half your income to a correctable mistake (hindsight of course) is an absolutely addictive thrill and I can see where it might throw people off from playing, but for me its the reason I return you just can't get that anywhere else.

Game definitely looks pretty but it seems many sites are faulting the game for the same issues, it being relatively unexciting and by the numbers. I will give the developer a huge amount of credit though because they really showed off what the PS4 was capable of and its noticeable, the level of polish and scale is amazing. Its too bad that Killzone just can't seem to break free of that "second rate FPS" syndrome because I would much rather play something futuristic like this then say, COD or Battlefield.

For me its very easy to explain why I can genuinely care about certain characters, because I can personally identify with them in some way. Take Commander Shepard for instance, having been a soldier myself and served two tours in Iraq I know what it is like to lose friends on the battlefield and how hard it is to let them go after all the shooting stops. Or how Shepard gets overwhelmed with feelings of doubt or terror and being able to push through those fears to overcome even the most bleak of situations. In Beyond Two Souls I related with Jodie in so many ways, her temperament, her isolation, her desire to find meaning and stability after having gone through so many traumatic experiences.

There have been so many greats characters over the years that I have been able to relate to in some way that it has made my experiences with gaming all the more memorable and unique even beyond those found in movies and tv shows.

You just can't get the same experiences with other entertainment mediums, being able to control and guide your character through the game world helps to really make your connections with certain characters even more tangible and endearing long after you put the controller down.
