I downloaded it to my 360 (got a PS3 but I've only got a few exclusives for it) since I figured it'd cut on the loading times etc and glad I did. I actually overestimated how much I'd completed - it's actually 71% over the course of about twelve hours. Considering I ever so slightly rushed it (on normal difficulty), I think that's a very respectable length. The fact you've had even more time out of it can only be a good thing. I'm currently just making my way through the actual 'tomb raiding' and trying to get the handgun upgrades which I somehow missed. Got the upgrades for everything bar that weapon. Something I feel I have to comment on is the fact the weapons actually have a good feel to them. Even the sound when Lara draws her pistol and the speed have 'impact'. I'm going to play through it again as soon as I get the chance but I receive Bioshock Infinite next week so no doubt that'll take over for the time being. Can't imagine that being a disappointment either.

[QUOTE="BigJackBauer"]I'd say they're actually similar in quite a few ways - but that's definitely not a bad thing. Uncharted 2 and 3 are superb games - particularly 2 - and the climbing, interactive set pieces and gunplay all seem at least similar. I absolutely love the new Tomb Raider and I'd hate to think anyone passes on it due to similarities to Uncharted. The similarities don't mean you 'feel' like you're playing an Uncharted game, you just feel comfortable and at home with the game quickly if you've experienced them. For me, Tomb Raider seems to be a good combination of Batman Arkham Asylum, Resident Evil 4 and Uncharted. All fantastic games and since they've got it right, criticism of ripping any of them off is extremely unfair.murph85

I'm surprised there aren't more comparisons to Hitman and Assassin's Creed considering the game has something similiar to Instinct/Eagle Vision.

Completely agree. Again, not bad games to be inspired by or to 'borrow' from.

Fantastic game. I've posted this on another topic but I'll post it here too - Tomb Raider seems to have taken elements from Resident Evil 4, Uncharted and Batman Arkham Asylum / City and it all leads to a great game since everything about it seems extremely satisfying. I'm particularly impressed with the combat (partly why I mention Resident Evil 4). I've heard a few people complain that it immediately becomes obvious that you're going to engage enemies since Lara's stance changes (in to a crouch and cover style). I personally don't have a problem with this. Granted, takes away the 'surprise' but then it's exciting and pretty visceral.

I own both and have to say, both are superb. That said, if you're after a lengthy experience, Far Cry 3 is the way to go. It's not that Tomb Raider is a short game - took me eleven hours and if memory serves, I had a completion rate of about 77% (meaning I'd missed tombs, collectibles etc), not to mention I did rush it a little since my gaming opportunities are fewer these days - but Far Cry 3 is simply a large game, perhaps slower pace and with more optional missions.

Difficult to recommend one over the other though. I'd say take the plunge and pick one, then pick up the other at the earliest opportunity.

I understand the disappointment with the game moving away from 'horror' and in the direction of action but I still found it to be a great game and really like the weapon crafting. Granted, I'd like the series to remain something of a horror shooter - there were still moments and atmosphere. The first one is still the best example of it though (as far as the series goes). As a 'game', it was a good 9/10 for me personally but   maybe a seven or an eight as far as being a Dead Space game goes. I got about seventeen to eighteen hours out of my first playthrough (pretty good really) and aside from the last couple of chapters which were a bit of a letdown, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Like many, I'm a massive 'Aliens' fan and I tend to pre-order a lot of games what I believe are sure to be at least good quality. This was the one game I knowlingly took a large gamble on because the previews were hardly convincing but I was longing to play an 'Aliens' game. The week before it, I received Dead Space 3 which I've really enjoyed thus far.

I haven't completed Aliens yet but can confirm it's a disappointment and not worth you spending your money on. The xeno's hardly seem menacing and the game is far from satisfying. I'm one of those who can overlook graphics for the sake of gameplay but the only thing the game seems to OCCASIONALLY get right is sound. The marines campaign from 2010 Aliens VS Predator is better, even though again, it was somewhat disappointing. They certainly did better with the xeno's anyway.

I'm absolutely gutted as the franchise and the fans deserve better. Save your money and if it's a newly released game you're after or something due out soon, check out Dead Space 3 - which in my opinion, is a great game - or wait for Crysis 3 and such as Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider.

I'll definitely finish it but even though I rarely ever trade games in, this one will probably be leaving my collection.

I think this game deserves a solid 8.5 as a Dead Space game and a 9.0 as a stand alone game.

Kingplayer1080

Completely agree with your scores. I'm on about chapter fourteen (solo) and have done as much exploration and side missions as I can.

I haven't played the co-op thus far so can't comment on what it's like or whether I think the addition of Carver is a good thing. I did read about how he's battling his own demons and occasionally has hallucinations. On that basis, I'd probably like his inclusion since they've removed this aspect from Issac. The dialogue is definitely cheesy but I'm quite invested in the story, I think its at least decent. Everyone has their opinion and taste but I can't help but think some people have been a little bit harsh on this game without giving a reason. I saw a score of '5/10' from one official reviewer which I really struggle to understand. If they really do think it's a mediocre game, they should at least qualify their remarks.

i'm surprised by the scores too. It's not that a current rating of 78% is 'bad' or anything but it will definitely put some people off from trying the game. I loved Dead Space and Dead Space 2 and I genuinely don't see the third game as a let down. Granted, they've headed in a more action orientated direction and this in turn diminishes the horror (ok - a bit of a disappointment since horror themed games are probably my favourite genre) but there's still a good sense of atmosphere and unease.

For me personally, its a nine out of ten game - as were the previous two entries. The combat is excellent, the weapons crafting is a nice addition and my fear about the environments has turned out to be unfounded, the combination of spaceships and the icy planet mix it up well with claustrophobic corridors being a feature of both.

I've seen a few comparisons with Resident Evil 6 - I can see why in a few ways - but THAT game is a mess. I bought it as a Resident Evil fan (Resident Evil 4 might be my favourite game of all time) and aside from completing Leon's campaign and perhaps just over half of Jake's, I simply can't be bothered to make my way through the rest at the moment. Far too action orientated and its annoying using shoddy quick time events all the time. Dead Space 3 is a much better crafted game - more satisfying, has a sense of atmosphere and is actually fun.

*** Should also mention Resident Evil 5. Fully appreciate that its not as good as Res Evil 4 and MOST of the horror the series is renowned for is missing but it still has its moments.
