I'm giving my old ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 mobo to a friend along with my old X800Pro. All of which is lightyears beyond what his pc is. The thing is, he doesn't have an LGA 775 CPU that he can use. Looking on Newegg, I saw this Celeron E1400.

My question is: will that Celeron work on the 4CoreDual board? The specs for the board says it supports Celeron procs, but I'm not sure if this E1400 is considered a regular 775 Celeron or is some kind of special Celeron-DC type. Newegg lists the E1400 along with their regular Celerons, so I would think that it would work, but I'm not sure. I don't want to recommend a CPU that won't work, and he can't really spare the extra $$$ to spring for a full-on C2D right now. He doesn't really want to buy a used chip either. (for obvious warranty reasons)

Thanks for any help and advice.

Just thought I'd come back to say thanks to everyone who voted and posted. I did check out the 9800GTX+, but if I'm going to go above my $170 limit I'd rather just go all out and get the HD4870. (the HD4850 from ASUS is $140 after rebate)

Again, thank you all so very much for all your input in pegging down which GPU I should get. The HD4850 has been ordered from Newegg and is on its way. :)

All versions of Vista (except for Vista Starter which is sold only in Asia) have both 64 and 32-bit support on the disc. You do not need to worry about seperate 64 and 32-bit versions.

When setting up bootcamp, remember that you will need to partition either a new Hard Disk Drive or a part of your current Hard Disk Drive for Vista to be put on as well as space to install games. You should set aside at least 50GB of HDD space. Vista itself will use up about 15GB. I would seriously recommend using an entirely separate HDD to install Windows. If not now, then sometime down the road.

-Edit-

Whoops! Just loaded up the link in the OP. If you're going with XP, then that version is the 32-bit. Unless it says 64-Bit Edition on the box, it is a 32-bit version of XP.

I love the disconnect in this game. When you see the actual original artwork, it looks like complete crap. The models suck and the animation is horrendous. But the environments look awesome! Did they really expect people to believe that the same company that has such horrendous icons, animations and models throughtout the entire game are same ones that did all of the incredibly excellent level design and environment textures? How in the world did they really think they'd get away this? One thing Majestic did have going for them, their logo is pretty cool. Too bad it'll never see the light of day again.

I would definately NOT go with Matrix Online. People still play it, but there are very few and you will have a hard problem getting into things being so new. It's really not that great of a game, either. It had potential but... just couldn't get the right feel down. IMO, all of the Matrix games suffered from this.

all I am going to say is that picture has EMO written all over it...36O

Yes, when I see that picture I immediately think of bands that pushed aginst the post 90's Straightedge Hardcore macho, testosterone and violence fueled imagery and behavior, like Hot Water Music and Texas Is The Reason, as well. Good call.

You couldn't go outside much because it's freakin' MARS! Mars, in case you forgot, does not have oxygen and the planet, obviously, has not been terraformed in the game setting. Besides, Doom has always been about coridors and monsters jumping out and appearing behind you. To do it different just wouldn't feel like Doom. And, yeah, the flashlight thing was a deisgn choice that I think worked for the better. The flashlight mod totally ruined the feel of the game, IMO.

I would've been happiest if id had stuck to the original Doom formula. Games like Serious Sam, Painkiller and Starship Troopers show that the genre can still work today.

But I doubt id will ever make another game like that - they're too busy trying to push the technological bar higher. It's probably in the company's best interest to go that route, since their goal is to make a serious entry into the engine licensing market, but I would be far happier if they went back and made a real Doom sequel.fatshodan

why would you pick one over the other? just be glad both make games for the PC when they could be making console only games like so many other developers.ct1615

Go over to the BioWare forums and you will see many users there with every single Bioware PC title registered to their screenname. The PC crowd loves Bioware, and Bioware gives it back. Good point that both should be highly praised for being faithful to and sticking with their PC fanbase.

I had to go with Bioware. I've loved all of their games. Not so much with Blizzard. I really disliked WoW and have never been a fan of Starcraft. Warcraft 1 was fun. 2 was okay, but it didn't have enough to hold my interest. Never played 3. Diablo 1 and 2 were a lot of fun, and I still pick back up DIablo 2 to play for a bit.

I also like Bioware more because they at least shake things up with new IP every now and then. (Jade Empire, NWN, BG, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KotOR, etc.) Since '95 everything Blizzard has done has been based off their 3 main IPs: Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft. That's great that the IPs that they basically blatantly ripped-off from Games Workshop have done so well, but I'd like to see something new. Or hell, I dunno, res an old IP like Lost Vikings.
