@illegal_peanut: That's a good point. Movie crossovers don't really work the same way comic book crossovers do, so that's another way leaning away from the comic aspect hurt the films. As for cape movie fatigue, that's another problem that's going to be hard to recover from.

I feel like the only ground left to cover is writing comic book movies with tighter plots and more serious stories, but you'd need to tap some REALLY skilled writers and directors to make it work, and at that point you'd get executive meddling ruining any potential that a film like Fury: My War Gone By might have.

@johnny0779: DC Movies are in a difficult position. They tried to be gritty and dark while eschewing a lot of the whimsical aspects of comic books, while Marvel went for big action sequences, snappy dialogue, and quirky, fun-to-watch characters. You could fairly argue that Marvel's output lacks substance, but regardless their approach is the one audiences preferred in the end.

Nowadays the Marvel formula is pretty well played out, so DC has to find a way to appeal to audiences without aping the early MCU films. But they're hobbled by a comparatively bad track record and notorious PR problems with their actors, so they're going to face an uphill battle.

It was time to re-think pre-ordering games like 8 years ago.

@Zombie8814: Giving a low score to a game that was obviously poorly-made isn't indicative of integrity, it's reaching for low-hanging fruit. When Pape gives a score lower than 7 to, say, a Halo game, THEN you can praise him for having the integrity to speak his mind.

It's worth noting that the Gollum/Smeagol dichotomy was an invention of Peter Jackson; in the original story, there's no multiple personality thing going on. The fact that they'd base a gameplay mechanic on it seems like another example of how little reverence for the source material modern production companies have.

@m4a5: Rowling's comments are controversial because they caused controversy. That's not an evaluation of the comments themselves, it's a simple statement of fact. But yes, omitting key context is how yellow journalists push agendas. That's why it's important to make people AWARE of such context, and to not take anything you read at face value.

@m4a5: On the other hand, Ezra's career is over while Rowling made so much money off the IP even BEFORE her controversial comments that she's effectively cancel-proof. And biased nu-media coverage won't change that.
