Fallout: New Vegas is going to be epic!

At first, and for a long time (right up untill about late August/September) I had all but shrugged off Fallout: New Vegas, putting it on my "wait and see" list, thinking I should probably wait until the GOTY edition.

But then I did it. I fell for the hype. Over the course of a few days, my hype for this game skyrocketed, I started building my hype up, and then contemplating a preorder. Sure enough, I finaly caved and preordered NV. Now not a day goes by where I don't think about FONV. lol. I really liked Fallout 3, but I wanted more of a challenge. It seems Obsidian is going to deliver on that desire with NV.

I forsee many many sleepless nights playing New Vegas :P

For future reference.

And there we go! lets see how right I am! happy E3 everyone!

Wow, so much has happened (gaming wise) since october!

Well, not SOOO much really, but for me, I played Demon's Souls once through, and started a few other characters, but never beat it again. It's really fun, I just don't have that much patience to farm and/or kill all those super-hard bosses again (namely false king). but maybe some time I'll go back to it.

Then I got my 1 FPS of the year, MAG, and it turned out to be a WIP more than a solid game. but I'd imagine that in a while, after they've tweaked some stuff, and done a bit more work, it will turn out to be a very solid, long-lasting game. It's fun if you have a group of friends that play it, but otherwise, it's a bit rough. Pretty bad when you catch yourself asking weather you should play MAG, or Farmville. I like to keep it a good balance between the two.

And most recently, my friend got me God of War III, and that game is frakin' AWESOME!!! I love it. So brutal, and so epic. Some of the parts border on tedium (particularly some of the last few "big" fights) but overall, I love it. and I intend to get platinum ASAP.

And again, I still find time to farm it up in FarmVille. I can't believe I actually got sucked into it's vortex. Castle Age was my gateway drug on Facebook, but after a while, it got old, and I noticed more and more of my friends getting into FarmVille, so I gave it a try, and now I'm hooked. It's so "casual-y" but it's almost relaxing. And the efficiency requirement is pretty high. and I like pretending I'm being efficient, since I'm so inefficient IRL (lol)

anyway. I doubt anyone will read this anyway, ha. so.. if you were bored enough to actually do so, thanks, and lets hear how you've been these past few months!

ALSO.. Looking forward to E3! Less than 3 months (about 11 weeks, give or take) to go! Always a good time!

I am sans-PS3 for a while :/

I sent my PS3 in to Sony tuesday night, (20th), And I'm really missing it. Just knowing it's not here is insane. I'm hoping the one I get back works flawlessly like mine did before its' GPU started going out.

I was getting stretched textures, and other weird graphical glitches, and it hit it's peak of annoyance when I couldn't even get into playing Demon's Souls because the stretched textures were interfering with playing the game.

Woe is me :(

E3 predictions/results!

My E3 2009 predictions.

From Sony, I think we'll see

1. No price drop announcement for the PS3 from Sony. Whilst I believe they really should drop that bottom price point, particularly in today's economy, and with the new 45nm chip out, I just am going to remain cautiously skeptical about them dropping the price at E3. I hope they do, but I just have a feeling they will fail to impress on this front, yet again. -Bingo. Ahh well, theres always TGS and/or Games Convention! :)

2. Team ICO will announce their new game. An RPG losely based on the ICO/SOTC universe, but it will be a more mainstream JRPG with that special Team ICO touch. We might even see a small CG/in-game teaser/trailer. -Well, I was mostly right. But not so much about it being a mainstream JRPG. hurr. silly me.

3. Rockstar will announce their new PS3 exclusive title. what it will be is anyone's guess. -Right again!

4. Sony reveals the PSP2.-Nope. It was the PSP Go!.

5. new FF vs. XIII trailer, this time with voices, and possibly even in english. -Yep, But Microsoft got actual gameplay :(

6. new GOWIII in-game footage -Hell yes! amazing looking, I might add.

7. White Knight Chronicles update -Shockingly, there wasn't anything about WKC at the Sony conference. Odd.

8. A new exclusive IP from a smaller studio that will take the audience by surprise. Much like how Media Molecule did with LBP. -WOW! Can't BELIEVE I nailed this one. ModNation Racers actually looks rather decent!

9. A large third party developer will come out with a new IP, possibly PS3 exclusive, that will get the hype machine rolling.-Does FFXIV count? if not, how about Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker? I dunno. Maybe I'm wrong?

10. Possible showing by Eat Sleep Play on their new game (but not likely) Meh, It was a stretch anyway. I was sorta right about it being not likely though :P

SCORE: 7/10. Not bad!

On to Microsoft, we'll see

1. Alan Wake, in game footage. -Ding!

2. An exclusive from Konami. It won't be Metal Gear related, but it will still look rather promising. -Nope. No exclusive. Sorry Xbox 360 fanboys (not really :P)

3. In-game playthrough, and/or footage of Halo 3: ODST -Yerp!

4. A slew of new XBLA titles, some look very promising. -well, sorta. There were a few avatar-based games showed. and some other junk. I'm sure someone thought it looked promising :P

5. Downloadable Xbox originals off XBL. -nope. No dice.

6. A lot of boasting about their efforts in Japan, including showings of Star Ocean, Final Fantasy XIII, and a few other Japan-targeted games. -again, no cigar. I thought for sure they'd try to climb that tree yet again. oh well.

7. a glimpse of a game based on one of their most popular franchises, one that will have the audience extremely excited. -Yes! Halo Reach anyone?

8. more talk of exclusive DLC for a few multiplatform games coming out. -Does the timed exclusive content for Modern Warfare 2, and the exclusive song for Beatles count? Ahh what the heck, I say they do! :P

9. they are going to showcase their casual library, and announce a new Viva Pinata game, along with a new IP which will be aimed around the user created content, to combat LittleBigPlanet. -I might be forgetting, but I don't think I saw anything like that, so - wrong.

10. And their big announcement will be either the new motion-sensing camera, which will likely be directed at a more casual audience, OR it will be a new portable handheld Xbox.-Yep. Say hello to Project Eyeto.. i mean, Project Natal :P

SCORE: 7/10 again! Not too shabby so far!

As for Nintendo.(Too long. I got 3/10. Didn't even watch the conference :()

As for Nintendo.

1. New Pikmin

2. New Mario game

3. New Zelda Game

4. Red Steel 2 gameplay

5. a new non-game aimed at casuals, the likes of Wii Fit, including a new perefferal.

6. A new game that uses the balance board.

7. A update to the online, possibly an entire makeover.

8. nothing really spectacular, and the showing will be rather lackluster.

9. Untill, that is, they anounce the next Wii! They won't go into too many details, but the basiscs will be, Hi-Def, HDD, but it will still retain a motion control scheme. Possibly they will base it around the whole 3D aspect.

10. A new DSI game that will get people talking.

Wishful thinking:

Bethesda announces Fallout 3 DLC for the PS3.

Microsoft announces a new Fusion Frenzy game

Sony shows they've flexed the money muscle with a slew of exclusive third party support.

FFXIII and vs. XIII in game footage, and playable demos.

COD modern warfare 2 gameplay footage

(this ones an extreme reach) Team ICO's new game is actually a SOTC remake, with all the old Colossi redone, with new ways of fighting them, and a slew of new colossi.

-----------------------

anyway, those are my guesses. Most of them are just things I pulled out of my assassin's creed, but a few of them are strong hunches and/or educated guesses, with a few probable guesses. We'll see how I fare when all is said and done.

Lets hope for the best E3 ever!

Things the PS3/PSN needs to match/exceed the 360/XBL.

1. Sony NEEDS to secure more 3rd party games/DLC! This BS with Bethesda and Fallout 3 is amongst my top discrepancies against Sony. Microsoft really hit Sony in the wallet with this one. Then theres Final Fantasy XIII. I know Sony isn't really into spending a lot of money on third parties, at least they've claimed so in the past, but by god, With games/franchises like FF and companies like Rockstar and Bethesda, it's well worth it to throw some extra money at them to keep the product flowing, and to keep as little negative gap between Sony and the competition.

2. Sony needs to have a better advertising angle. The fact that it's 2+ years into the PS3's lifecycle and there are still people who don't know even know about the Playstation Store is proof enough, let alone the unmentionable amount of people who don't know the online is free, which IMO was one of the key selling points of the console for me. Sony just hasn't been doing enough to get these key features out there to the masses.

3. The PSN needs a feature that rivals MS's "party" system. if they could do that, it would all but eliminate the need for private chat, and add a key feature to their online that would most assuredly improve sales. Then start having devs add in online support for said party feature. If they could pull this off, it would be an obvious "copy cat" move, but the praise they would get from the actual consumers would far outweigh the whining cries of the fanboys.

4. Last but ABSOLUTELY NOT least is the PRICE. It needs to be around $250 for the base model, even if they have to revert back to 60GB with no BC. that would be a crushing blow to the competition if they could manage to that. At least, I would assume this to be the truth. $50 more for a console with a relatively large HDD, and free online, as well as the non-essentials like Blu-Ray, built-in wireless, and etc. (you know the list) This would easily be the best move Sony could possibly make, and I feel, if they do it right, with tons of adverts/etc, it might cause a financial explosion for Sony, and they could very well come out on top this holiday season/the years to come.

I really do want to see Sony pull out of this ahead, but really, it's not looking good at their current (pre-E3'09) state. Let's just hope for the best.

I'll try to put up an E3'09 predictions blog soon :)
