Mental issues cause violence like that. I don't think it makes any difference what that person does or consumes, the seed of madness is still there and one way or another will burst. Blaming videogames, movies or guns is just blaming the means of symptoms, of the idea. You need to change the idea, which is mental illness, to remove such violence.
