Great set of games but awful port.

User Rating: 5.5 | Prince of Persia Trilogy PS3
This is the first time I've ever played the Prince of Persia series and enjoyed each game. The combat is fast and fluid, the platforming is very innovative, and the sands of time is an ingenious concept that doesn't punish failure but encourages success through trial-and-error. Truly amazing games.

My problem is that the trilogy did not receive the proper polish that it deserved. First off, the high-definition can only do so much but the low-polygon count definitely shows during cutscenes. This can be somewhat forgiven for the aging graphics but the fact that Ubisoft only decided to apply a fresh set of paint instead of actually redo-ing the graphics by adding more polygons (something that Just Add Water is doing for 'Oddworld Munch's Oddysee' and 'Stranger's Wrath') shows there wasn't much appreciation for that.

Another problem is the sound quality. Often times the sound is too low or disappears. The sound of voices fluctuate between decent and sub-par. At times I remember not even hearing the Prince deliver his lines.

You should also be forewarned that the glitches and freezing are truly excruciating. For example, my first playthrough of 'Prince of Persia: Sands of Time' froze eigh times on me. EIGHT TIMES!!! The game literally froze twice during the title screen, twice during combat, and four times while jumping from platforms. This bothered me enough to stop play on several occasions..

Something else to point out, which is just nitpicking but to be noted, the difficulty trophies don't stack up. So, if you decided to complete the game on the hardest difficulty expecting to receive the easy and normal trophies as well, don't bother. You'll be forced to complete this game in three playthroughs thanks to Ubisoft's negligence (or pathetic attempt to squeeze replay-ability out of these games).

Regardless of these flaws, the games are amazing. Truly some of the best platforming I've ever experienced. If you have a PS3, grab this collection. If you already have them on the PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, PC, etc. then save your money. It's not worth it.
