Popolocrois is something you should definitely try at least once if you love RPGs.

User Rating: 8 | PoPoLoCrois Monogatari: Pietro Ouji no Bouken PSP
Popolocrois begins with a young boy named Pietro who is a prince of a kingdom. On his tenth birthday he figures out his mom is truly in the world of darkness where the dead live. The explanation of this was a war between a dragon and a snow demon. The dragon fought against the demon for weeks until one day the demon was defeated but the snow demon dragged the dragon to the world of darkness with him. This dragon was Pietro's mother who in fact is still around in her human form but truly her soul is in the world of dark. Pietro finds this solution. The solution or key to saving and finding his mother is a book. This book is the key to the other world of the dead and he goes on an adventure with a witch named Narcia. As the adventure goes on Pietro meets new friends and also ends up making friends even with the evil. If you are interested in a long game and detailed story this game is for you. It is all turned base and is not that hard to play. This is perfect for a beginner in RPGs.

The graphics weren't done perfectly but it is good enough to play. I would've preferred a little bit more details though. But don't expect too much from the game's graphics as it is only 2D. But the cinematic scenes were flawless and were animated very well but the voice acting kind of lacked because most voices for evil characters didn't seem to fit the character but I guess they were okay. The voice acting wasn't really realistic but some of the parts were really emotional and had their times too.

The controls were simple and weren't hard to learn. No tutorials are required to learn any of them. I like the analog controls and the speed of the character's movements. Loading screens were really fast to but there were so many of them in the game and it got annoying after awhile.
Gameplay was excellent but it was too easy which I didn't like. This game needed more challenges and things like that. I would've liked more weapons to but I think there is enough to enjoy the whole game itself without complaining too much. The battle system lacked complexity elements really didn't matter it was more like the more like whichever move caused the most damage was the best for each battle. So grinding is basically what you do in this whole game but the story makes things worth it though cause of the time skips and character development. I like learning new spells when the time skips and getting around places and buying things. This game isn't linear either it is wide open for exploring and there is plenty of things to do other than follow the main storyline. It isn't like oblivion but there is still a vast amount of things to do. Finding treasure and exploring un-explored areas is one of the best parts about this game. But there are some really cheap summoning stones that give you a lift in boss battles which I don't like. The summons last the whole battle and battle just like any CPU they also have an extreme amount of hp and mp which is really cheap for certain parts of the game. Plus they can be re-used again. You could say the summonings are pretty cheap like the smash ball in brawl.

The story is a little over dramatic which isn't always bad but it makes things lack. There is some romance and character growth and development throughout the game. You could say the characters grow through time skip and the character design changes. The story could've been more in depth and have more meaning but I thought it was pretty good considering they focused on storyline in the game. The story seemed slow though and never got on to the point but that is what made the game so long making good excuses to add more action and leveling up. I personally like the theme and the lessons shared in the game. The narrator added this effect to the game like it was a book. Which I thought was splendid. In the end of the game they have an album of all the things you did in the game, you don't make decisions in this game so nothing really effects how the album is played. I thought that was an emotional experience because it was the end of the game personally. Replay isn't really worth it though unless you feel like getting all the items and getting a higher level.

I give this game an overall 8/10 it could've been way better and had a good chance to but there were some mistakes in the game that easily could've been fixed. I'm a tiny bit disappointed in the result of the game but it entertained me while I played this game. It is one of my favorites on the psp and will be for a long time. If you like RPGs and have a psp this would be a game you should get and I'd personally recommend it if I get the chance. This was definitely one of my best purchases for the psp.
