Pop Island is capture the flag at its best. You pick one of many various characters and barnstorm around the levels, jumping, picking up flags and shooting down members of the opposing teams with firecrackers. It's as simple as that. The controls are responsive and the characters are quite varied and different in abilities--some drive well on land, some swim, some fly--but what really makes it is how much action there is going on at once. It can get downright crazy when you get in a big pack of characters in full-on combat mode. As far as strategy, you chose how to balance your time between blasting the other team and picking up flags but either strategy is pretty effective once you learn how to use your characters particular skill set to your advantage on any given level. The difficulty ramps up as you unlock more characters and maps but it remains as light and relatively easy fun throughout. The only thing I can take issue w/ is lack of online multiplayer but that's really just because it's such a blast to play. There is eight player ad-hock multiplayer that's compatable w/ DS Download Play and that alone makes this quite a steal for the one Abe Lincoln this will set you back from the eStore. I recommend this highly for anyone looking for a quick, addictive pick up and play game for DSi or 3DS.
