Panel de Pon fans will certainly enjoy this variant of the classic game.

Panel de Pon lovers will instantly recognize Poker Smash: it is essentially a modded version of the tried and true puzzle game. The main difference, it being the Poker aesthetic created throughout the game. Colors aren't the sole use of creating chains: suits and numbers are the basis of which matches are made. Five reds? Try Five-Of-A-Kind. Or a straight. Or a flush.

Aside from the poker type of gameplay, two different gameplay items are used during the game: bombs and slow-motion. Bombs are used to destroy a card in order to start a chain. Usually, bombs are the best way to continue and start combos. Slow-motion is used in the higher levels when things get too fast. To most, it would seem like a rather needless gameplay mechanic, but it actually proves to be very beneficial when those levels pop up.

I love Panel de Pon, but even I can admit that this game has hit its stride since I played the first American version ever released to the states: Tetris Attack. However, Poker Smash might be a big coux for the Panel de Pon type puzzlers. In my opinion, this is better than Planet Puzzle League, which in itself is considered by many to be the best version of Panel de Pon released.

I just wish mulitplayer was much more interesting and that the Poker theme was delved into much further. In the end, great game that is worth 800pts.
