Instant rush of nostalgia

Ah, the days when Pokemon was all the rage! Since I still remembered how to play the TCG, I decided to download the rom for BGB. Amazingly enough, I actually had fun remembering the old strategies. While the game has a very odd storyline, trying to fit the age old Pokemon story in the context of card playing, the TCG itself offers around a 65/35 ratio of skill over luck. This means that it's easy to pick up but takes a bit of skill to master. Unfortunately, winning Pokemon decks are not very varied, usually following under a limited amount of winning deck archetypes (for more info, check the Gamefaqs). Still, the game has a good playing time for a GBC game, although it is less than that of the traditional games. I think the greatest handicap for the game is the lack of multiplayer. It could have offered so much more with a player versus player via link cable. I also think a "card code" system as in Dark Duel Stories could have been implemented, although I'm not sure whether the real cards have codes. Overall, a fun game that offers a decent amount of strategy that isn't too hard, just like the traditional Pokemon games.
