Stunning visuals and offers something new to both fans and newcomers alike for Pokemon Sun and Moon

User Rating: 8 | Pokemon Moon 3DS

Pokémon has been around since 1996 with Pokémon Red and Blue both on the Game Boy, with both games being a massive success later games would also become best-sellers on later handhelds including the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and the Nintendo 3DS. Both Pokémon Sun and Moon are the latest games in the Pokémon series released on the Nintendo 3DS; unlike both Pokémon X & Y or Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire added new gameplay mechanics and features.

Both Sun and Moon throws you in a new setting set in the Alola region based on Hawaii where the ideas and influences came from to begin. Once you've picked either a male or female trainer you'll begin your journey in becoming a Pokémon champion in the Alola region, but on your journey, you'll encounter Team Skull which are up to no good and plotting a scheme. As you progress to gain a new Z-Move after clearing a certain Trail in a certain location and defeating a strong Pokémon. Before starting your journey, you meet Professor Kukui, who tells you about the island kahuna is willing to give you a free starter, you can either choose Litten, Popplio or Rowlet as your first partner in Pokémon.

Anyone new to the franchise or series will have a little time getting to know the controls and slowly understand why everyone else loves playing series overall. Whichever Pokémon you have started you can level up that Pokémon by fighting other Pokémon trainers and masters plus fighting wild Pokémon that appear out of the blue in grass fields. During battles your Pokémon will have four battle techniques which you can use to attack your opponent more you level your Pokémon it can learn new skills and techniques when it gets to a certain level your Pokémon will evolve into a more powerful Pokémon. If you have Pokeballs in your item bag you can capture wild Pokémon during random battles when their HP is on a level you can capture them and train them you can have up to six Pokémon in your team but you can switch back and forth on what Pokémon you want to have in your team if capture more than six Pokémon.

You can play up to 2 - 4 players in a mode called Battle Royale which lets you compete against three other trainers in what is essentially a fight to the death. Once one trainer has all three of their Pokémon knocked out, the match is over. I do like this idea letting more than 2 - 4 players battle against each other all at once where you can either decide to team up with someone in defeating another opponent who has a strong Pokémon in their team or take on the weaker Pokémon first. Just like in past games you can trade Pokémon with other players, but also depending which Pokémon you have on your team and whichever Pokémon you use to fight other trainers you can easily look after and care your Pokémon by cleaning, feeding and grooming it kind of like a pet if you think about it.

With this being on the 3DS you would think that the entire game would have the 3D effect for it but it’s not used at all but the visuals still look impressive on the 3DS. It could have been nice if you could have the 3D effect on through the whole game if that was optional for those who want to experience a game in full 3D. If you either bought Pokémon Sun or Moon everything looks more well detailed if you compare both games with either Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire or X & Y it's like Nintendo had listened to their fans on what people want in a future game especially on a handheld console.

Clearing the main story can take you up to 20 hours or more depending on how much experience you want out of either Sun or Moon, you can also download certain Pokémon through the internet if you have the Wi-Fi turned on for your 3DS or heading into your local game store in downloading or asking for a code. If you are new to the series or a fan in general both Pokémon Sun and Moon can offer a ton of hours on collecting all Pokémon and trying to collect everything on top of that for the Pokedex. Most Pokémon games don't have a solid story but most people love the franchise in general due to the unique gameplay mechanics and features and of course trying to collect all Pokémon including the rare ones, both Sun and Moon will make players want to come back more and more especially if you are playing games when you are out and about.
