A wonderful new world of pokemon to explore

User Rating: 8 | Pokemon Sword NS

Pokémon Sword and Shield had big expectations for being the first generation of Pokémon to come to a console (technically). Tons of new features made this stand out as an epic Pokémon game especially for players that haven’t played Pokémon in a few generations.

Story: 5/10

The biggest new story feature of Pokémon of is the use of the Pokémon Championship. No longer are you on a journey with just you and your rival to collect 8 gym badges but rather a sporting event in a sense to beat all of the gym leaders to have a shot to fight the champion along with all the other trainers that have completed the gym challenges as well.

Score: 9/10

Classic Pokémon music makes a return in several remixes giving this game a feel of both nostalgia and innovation.

Characters/Character Development: 7.5/10

The game gives you enough rivals and enemies to battle so you feel a connection to the bigger characters in the region, but with this entry becoming bigger it would have been nice to see more returning trainers fill this world.

Graphics: 9/10

Everything looks very sharp and smooth in this game, especially when travelling quickly along on your bike. The Pokémon team has done a great job when it comes to how people, Pokémon and the Galar region look.

Gameplay: 9/10

Battling through this Pokémon has become more fun than ever. Being able to see which Pokémon you are going to engage in before fighting makes the game so much more fun. Wild Pokémon are also stronger than ever before allowing you to catch a Pokémon and be able to use it with very little grinding to get it to be equal with the rest of you party. Other little shortcuts like being able to swap out a newly caught Pokémon when your party is full is a nice new addition that makes everything feel less tedious.

Difficulty: 3/10 (0 being the easiest, 10 being the hardest)

Pokémon has never been a game that has been very difficult and because of that accomplishing things like beating the champion don’t really feel like a big deal.

Fun: 9/10

Pokémon Sword is the most fun I have had playing a Pokémon game in a long time. The game takes new steps in the right direction. Exploring the wild area, although rather small, provides a great opportunity to catch a diverse amount of Pokémon and make a strong unique team.
