Same old, same old

User Rating: 1.8 | Pocket Monsters Ruby Version GBA
When I started playing Pokemon Ruby, I had already played (and beat) Yellow, Silver, and Sapphire, so I could safely say I had already experienced all the regions. When I first played it, I could not put it down. This was only for two reasons: First, I was desperate for some mindless amusement. Second, I could never put a game down once I started playing it unless it was apallingly bad or was broken. The story is the same as it was in all the other Pokemon games: You are a trainer that just got their first Pokemon and you want to prove you're the best in your region, but there is some evil orginization that wants to use powerful pokemon to take over the world and you have to stop them on the way to becoming the best and beating the Elite Four in your region. While there are new moves, some new Pokemon, and some new items, I personally do not see any of those things as an improvement over other games. Also, the battle animations are very bad. The attacks are nver much more than your Pokemon doing a little dance and then the usual course of an attack. Also, the fighting area looks horrible. It almost seems like someone erased most of the environment and then simply made the Pokemon more detailed. Also, the Pokemons' cries sound terrible. They all sound like electronic beeps with some slight variations. Also, the script for other characters is very bland and does not seemed to be much different from previous versions. In all, this game seems to be just another rehash of older versions with minor changes. Unless you are new to Pokemon, madly addicted to the series, or collect the games, spend your money on
