Back story: A little over 16 years ago Pokemon were released in japan on the Game boy. However back then nobody thought it would be the phenomenon it is today spawning cartoons and loads of Pokemon products. Pokemon took the world by storm even though the graphics weren't the best (even for Gameboy)
It had such good game play that nearly everyone loved it.
Story: The story is about red (player's default name) a ten year old boy who leaves home on a quest to become a Pokemon master but to do that you have to catch and make Pokemon fight against each other so you can beat the 8 gym leaders and win their badges and finally take on the elite four to become the best trainer in the world.
Game play: Probably so popular because of replay value between red and blue due to having to find 120 Pokemon in the two games.
