Time for a new adventure in Kanto

User Rating: 8 | Pokemon FireRed Version GBA
Released in 2004, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are remakes of Pokémon Red & Green (this last one is barely known in the West). As the original versions, released in 1998, the game is passed in the land of Kanto. As a new version of an old game, the second and third generations of pokémons were added to the mix, alongside with items, moves and small modifications in the map, scenario, events and NPCs.

The visuals are kinda squary, an attempt to make the game feel like its old predecessors, but maybe that wasn't a good idea for a game that came out right after Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, that brought screaming different visuals to Pokémon games if we compare them with Gold/Silver/Crystal. Now the sprites and graphics for pokemons are colourful and modern, similar to the ones from R/S/E.

The sounds is not so remarkable, but does make you feel like you're playing a Pokémon game.

The game lasts long enough to have fun, but of course, as any Pokémon game, things get really hot in the multiplayer. FR and LG come with a wireless adapter, that can be used to trade and battle instead of the cable Link, though the accessory is still accepted. There are, however, some mini-games that can only be played using the wireless adapter.

The replay factor goes to the old "gotta catch'em all", since that depending on the starter you pick, a different legendary will be available.

One way or another, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are great games and no pokemaniac can miss them.
