A solid remake that is (like all Pokemon games) extremely addictive.

User Rating: 8.5 | Pokemon FireRed Version GBA
Pokemon: Fire Red and Leaf Green are remakes of the classics; Blue and Red. Pokemon Blue and Red were a huge success around the world and were the first Pokemon games ever. I wouldn't say this game was as big a success but it is still a good, solid game.

You start your adventure in the region of Kanto (I Think) and the first person you meet is Prof. Oak. He asks you if you are a boy or a girl, and what your name is. After you complete that, you meet his grandson, who is also your rival. Apparently Oak has forgotten his name, (old age I suppose) so you have to remind him, which is just choosing what his name is.

After you've done that you get plonked into your room, in Kanto and your adventure to become a Pokemon master begins! The game is quite boring until you get your running shoes, so you can move around faster. The main idea of the game is to defeat all the Pokemon gym leaders and train your Pokemon until you... I won't spoil it.

Now we will start off with the good things about the game:

There are almost too many Pokemon in the game, it's unbelievable! Some are really rare and some are really popular, which adds to a good atmosphere of the game.

The game is extremely addictive! (See 'My Top 5 Most Addictive Offline Games' blog)

Battling friends with the new wireless adapter is a lot of fun. You can have a lot of people (real people, that is) in the same room together, who you can battle, trade and talk with, which is great!

Leveling up Pokemon is addictive, fun and rewarding. Once you get to a certain level, some Pokemon evolve, which is great. They also learn new moves the more you level up. The game is extremely rewarding, which adds to how addictive it is.

The map is huge! With a lot of cities to go to and routes to walk through, it is all a lot of fun just to travel through.

Now we will go through the bad:

Like a lot of addictive games, it eventually gets extremely repetitive, which is a pity.

When using the multiplayer adapter, there is heaps of lag and waiting for the other player. This is disappointing, although not too hard to bear with.

Once you have finished the storyline, the only thing you can really do is collect all the Pokemon, and there is so many that it is almost pointless, I just played through the story again when this happened.

Text, text, text, text! It's really annoying trying to read all of the pointless things that randoms tell you. I wish they made this game voice acted, I would be very impressed, although the GBA's sound quality is terrible.

The soundtrack is just plain annoying, I play the game without sound because of this.

And that's the end of my review, Fire Red is a solid remake that is (like all Pokemon games) extremely addictive.
