Broken motion controls plague what could have been an okay game.

This is one of the few games in existence that caused me physical pain. Being one of those Wii titles with tacked-on motion controls, the game has the player waggling his wrist endlessly to hack through a ridiculous number of on-screen (and hard to kill) enemies in every level. You'll often find yourself swinging hopelessly at an enemy until he eventually lets his guard down and stops blocking your attacks, and every sword attack must be performed by flicking the Wii Remote in no particular direction or rhythm while looking like a complete idiot. Swordplay could be an interesting gameplay mechanic on the Wii given well-implemented and responsive controls that could detect several different swings or movements, but this game unfortunately fails to do so. It's a shame, too, since there are the makings of a palatable movie-licensed game beneath the smudge of poor Wii controls. The graphics are nothing amazing, but they're nothing hideous either. Some of the environments can be fun to explore, as well. It's always good for a laugh to walk up to any given salty wench in Tortuga as Capt. Jack Sparrow only to get instantly rejected by her and violently get five across the face. (Seriously, he slept with every single woman in the town? This guy is now officially my hero.) The familiar music from the film series is ever-present and welcome, there's a large roster of recognizable characters that are unlockable for play later on in the game, and several side-quests (such as a game or three of Liar's Dice) are decent fun. This game could have been a decent weekend rental for any given fan of the franchise, but the broken controls and tedious, difficult combat leave this title horribly marred.
