Pictochat is just what you'd expect from a DS app. It's shallow, but it does what it's meant to do. Provide an accessible chatting experience on your DS. Pictochat is split into 4 chatrooms, but I doubt that you will need to use more than one. Once you enter a chatroom, you're ready to chat. You can write on the touchscreen, or use the game's keyboard feature. There's also some chat icons to choose from, such as an umbrella or a cell phone and japenese letters if anyone wants them. That's it. Despite the lackluster presentation, it is pretty fun to chat with your friends for a couple of minutes. But considering the DS signal will only go about 10 feet, you'll start to wonder why you aren't chatting with them face-to-face. We can forgive nintendo since, technically, it's not an actual game and it is a small step up from the gameboy advance presentation. Overall, pictochat is a decent chat system for those who want it and for those who don't, Hey, it's free!
