Nothing that you haven't played or seen before. Definitely not a game worth picking up.

User Rating: 6 | Phantasy Star Portable PSP
I'll be brief with this review: you've seen games like this before. It's a very simple RPG based in the future on some space-station like place.

Review based on:
1. Gameplay: controls and game format.
2. Graphics: visual impact on the gamer.
3. Sound: sound effects and musical score.
4. Story: overall impact of narrative.
5. General Appeal: the game's ability to keep you interested and playing.

Gameplay (8.0/10): I can't take away too much from the game's gameplay factor. It's not broken, and the controls and functions are fairly smooth with about a medium level learning curve for the different equip/action functions offered. It's decent and it gets the job done, but once again, it's nothing new-- boring.

Graphics (8.5/10): Again, I can't deny the average/slightly above average graphics the game offers. The game looks decent and the environments (while they can sometimes become repetitive) are well designed. The avatar that you control looks decent and you won't be unimpressed by the enemies you encounter. But I have to stress the fact that you won't feel like you're seeing anything new.

Sound (5.0/10): Just not quite passable for a PSP game that wants to be considered a member of the upper tier of games. The voice-overs make a respectable effort at connecting the gamer to the characters, but unfortunately they come off aggravating and you'll find yourself skipping past the voices very soon after you start playing. The score is not up to par either. While it attempts to provide a good feeling for the environment your in (e.g., a futuristic track while you're in the space station), it ends up sounding like a decent MIDI track you'd find on a free online game. Not good.

Story (2.0/10): Horrible. I can't even come up with the proper words to describe how terrible the story of this game is. I won't attempt to even briefly summarize the horrible narrative this game puts forth because I don't want to have to relive the painful amount of reading that had to be done to understand the god-awful story this game tried to have.

General Appeal (6.5/10): While this score may be slightly biased after playing through the game, I have to admit that before I had started playing it I was excited to get my hands on it and see what it had to offer. It looks like it provides a good overall package from looking at the box, but once you get inside you'll regret it: the terrible story coupled with average looks and gameplay will allow you to put the game down very shortly after you picked it up.

Overall Score (6.0/10): Please don't buy the game. It comes at a hefty price and that money could be spent wiser elsewhere. It's a completely average RPG in terms of gameplay but fails massively in its story and that failure alone should be more than enough to keep this game on the shelf.
