The way to do a JRPG with great gameplay and an amazing story

User Rating: 9 | Persona 4 Golden VITA

The events of Persona 4 happen during a year, where you stay with your uncle in his town outside of the city. Inaba is a small town where suddenly strange things happen right after you come to the town. You find out that something isn't quite usual with this place and you suddenly find yourself in a mystery trying to solve a case where only you can solve it. It also seems that you are special and given a destiny. You also get attached to the friends you meet and find out their struggles and lives. The life at high school in this town is not what it seems like on the surface.

The combat and the conversations are the biggest aspects of gameplay in this game. They have also the biggest impact on the game where choices you make can change how characters or how the story plays out in the end. The tactical aspect is a big factor in this game. With the Persona's you acquire during the game, gives the player the range and freedom to change to whoever you want to from the Persona's you have acquired so far in the game. The tactics also have a lot to say, especially when you are facing a boss or a harder enemy compared to the regular ones. Then you have to plan out how and when to strike the boss and keeping your party safe and alive.

The social ranks also help the gamer to make the party and your friends better and to get better persona's if you max them out. Giving you an incentive to hear the deepers stories for the friends you have in the game. The ability to fuse your persona's and collect them gives you an extra incentive to go back and try to get them all and get the best Persona's.

The story in this game gives you all emotions through the entire game. Getting to know new people, the loss of someone, sadness, joy, frustration, you name it. It is all in here. With great writing and great characters the story goes really well with the game and the setting. The characters are really fleshed out with their own personalities and quirks. They also each have their own struggles to push through the game. The overall story is also very tight, with every chapter of the story having it's own theme and keeping information previously given. The story also works towards new revelations each time making the stakes for the characters all the greater. You also feel more responsibility, because you are the only one that can solve the case. The case itself is also very well written with you never really knowing who is behind it, because you never know what's behind the next corner.

The graphics have gotten a good overhaul since the Playstation 2 days, it still has a great artstyle that doesn't make the game seem that old. But it does still show that it is an hd version of an older game. In some area's the graphics looks a little bit unclear like certain signs or buildings or even faces for example. Something they could have improved on. I did not experience any framerate issues or any glitches during. Overall the game looks good, but a great artstyle. It has a few flaws, but still runs very smooth.
