The way Mario RPGs go, you can't get much better than this. Intelligent Systems, the creator of Fire Emblem, took elements from Square's Super Mario RPG and made a visual feast for the eyes with Paper Mario. The story is a common one - Bowser has kidnapped Peach, and Mario must make his way through the Mushroom Kingdom and rescue the seven Star Spirits in order to thwart Bowser's plans. Graphically, you couldn't ask for anything more innovative - every character is rendered in 2D in a 3D world, like paper cut-outs, hence the title of the game. The gameplay is rich in depth, with many different regions to explore, such as Dry Dry Desert, Flower Fields, and the Shiver Region. Character development is high, with many different, humorous characters to meet on your journey. Sound is excellent, and the music is well-suited for the environments. And the battle system is great: a turn-based system where the player must also use timing to deal more damage. So with all its features and aspects, Paper Mario is too good to miss out on.
