Pac-Man World 2 is a fun platformer but a lack of polish and some technical faults keep it from greatness.

I love platformers, whether it be a sidescroller, a linear or a free roaming platformer, I love platformers. So when I popped in Pac-Man World 2 for my Nintendo Gamecube I couldn't have been more happy. The story was standard platforming affair. The levels were bright and colourful, with plenty of satisfying run and jump gameplay on offer and the game offered some nice boss fights and a decent challenge. It was the perfect platformer and after defeating the final boss I felt happy and a little disappointed that the game was so short. However it wasn't completed yet as I had the collectibles and time trials to finish. Unfortunately this is when the game begins to show some of its flaws. Firstly while the camera is good most of the time, sometimes it can be a bit cumbersome as it will occasionally snag on to the environment or give me a bad angle on a level. Secondly another major concern is that sometimes Pac-Man will die due to a fault of the game and not my own which can grow frustrating very quickly. Thirdly, while Pac-Man World 2 looks nice, it doesn't look as good as it could be and the underwater levels grow boring. However Pac-Man World 2 does offer excellently produced and catchy music and the sound effects both old and new merge well to make the game sound terrific. Pac-Man World is a fun game but plenty of technical issues and a lack of polish detract from what is overall, a great platformer.
