For most part the exact same game as four years ago on the PC, but still way above everything else.

Can the graphic hold up to a Half Life 2? Maybe not on a single screenshots, but if you take into account that OF:E's environments are gigantic while HL2 and most other FPS are limited to small corridors, it definitvly doesn't look so bad anymore, in fact when you get used to them they hold up quite well. Sure, the characters faces look a bit weird, but the very good voice acting and brilliant story lets you forget that very quickly. In addition to what the PC version had to offer in tems of graphics the XBox version features additional graphical effects such as depth of field, lenseflares, grass, detail textures, weather effects, mild bloom and other things which boost the graphics quite a bit up. Only complaint about the graphics would be the smaller visible rangle compared to the PC version, but in combat thats not a problem.

People who dismiss this game, seem to miss the point of the game entirely. This is not your standard colorfull run&gun shooter, this is a war simulation and war isn't colorfull and fun, its brutal, deadly, dusty and ugly and OF:E caputures that feeling like nothing else. This means that one direct hit will kill you, that a single good RPG hit will tear your BMP and its crew into pieces and simply that you might get overwhelmed by the chaos at the battlefield. If you want to survive in OF:E you have to be carefull and think and not just blindly into the enemy.

The sound effects might not be as spectacular as in other games, but if you are lying on the grounds and hear bullets hitting the ground right near you, with you having no idea where the attacker is, they still get the job done perfectly.

What makes OF:E uniq is that it does not only simulate a tiny subportion of the war, but everything. This means you will have to run around as an infrantry unit, hide in the woods as sniper, sneak through the night as spec op, drive around in a tank, fly a helicopter, fly a plane and even drive around as civilian in a bus. You also have to play as both a teammember who gets orders as well as a team leader who gives orders. While the AI can be a bit tricky here and there, it for most parts does far better then in other games and your teammates actually do their job well instead of just being a bunch of stupid bystanders.

Speaking in terms of value, again there is little that comes close. You have two large campaigns, 15 single missions, 4 instant action ones and if you are through all that you have a powerfull mission editor at your hand to create your own and very good XBox live support. The game should definitvly keep you busy for month.

So what are the downsides of the game? Not much really, it would have been nice if the game had an additional dynamic campaign like some other PC based war games (Falcon4, EF2000) and a bit more viewing distance would have been good. But overall this is a flawless port of one of the best PC games around. The graphics are enhanced, the controls mapped extremly well to the controller and the missions editor is still present. The game definitivly comes a bit late, given that the PC version as been around for some years, but since there is still nothing that comes close to what OF:E achieves, especially on consoles, that shouldn't be to much of a problem.

If you want a game that focuses on realism and doesn't try to paint war in happy fluffy colors, then this is definitvly a must have.
