Onslaught is a really fun and addictive shooter for WiiWare.

I was surprised to hear that there was a first person shooter coming on WiiWare and I imagine a lot of people were too. And now that I've played it and beaten it on every difficulty, I say it's a must download. It's fun, addictive and has a ton of replay value.

In terms of gameplay, Onslaught moves a little slow (about the speed of being crouched in a typical first person shooter), but you'll forget about that when you're killing a lot of bugs. There's only a few different types of bugs, and once you get farther in the game, the look of them change depending on difficulty. There's a total of 6 different guns and they each have 2 upgrades. The weapons are a assault rifle, submachine gun, shotgun, rocket launcher, grenades and a beam whip. There's 2 modes and they're Single Player and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection(online multiplayer). In Single Player, there's a total of 5 difficulties and they're Easy, Normal, Hard, Expert and Ultra (Expert and Ultra have to be unlocked). There's 13 missions in Single Player and there's 3 boss fights. Your first time through will take you a couple hours or less. It's a little on the easy side even on the higher difficulties, but you better watch how close you get to enemies on the higher difficulties cause you die in a couple hits. Online multiplayer works really well, but there's no form of communication. There's Free Battle(which is the single player missions, but you can play with three other people). Then there's Ranked Battle in which you're put on a special map and try to get as many points as you can. There's also a scoreboard (or rankings). There is usually no lag and only a few times, I encountered some serious lag.

Onslaught controls pretty well overall. There's 4 sensitivity settings for aiming you can choose with A being the fastest and D being the slowest. You move with the Nunchuk, you aim with the Wii Remote, you shoot with B. You can also throw grenades by pressing C and swing the Nunchuk. You can swinging your beam whip by holding down Z and swinging the Nunchuk. In Single Player, you press A to change to formation of your teammates(front, sides or back). And you change your weapons with the d-pad.

On a graphical side of Onslaught, it looks pretty damn good for a downloadable WiiWare game. The framerate is smooth and the animations are decent. Your weapons are highly detailed. The only downside is you'll see alot of the same enemies throughout the game and the characters are really generic. But overall it looks pretty good.

The sound is good overall with solid sound effects and generic (but good)music. What gets annoying though is the announcer. He'll say stuff like "good" and "great", but then he'll say stuff like "that's why you're still a kid"(it's funny, but gets annoying after hearing it for the tenth time in a row).

Onslaught has an excellent amount of replay value. The Single Player will take you a couple of hours for one playthrough and there are five difficulties. The Online Multiplayer will keep you busy for a long time.

Gameplay: Sure it moves a little slow, but it's still extremely fun and has very responsive controls. 9.5/10

Graphics: Runs smooth, great looking weapons, and good looking environments. Really generic though, but still great, especially considering the size limit of WiiWare downloads. 9.5/10

Sound: Good sounding weapons with some good music, but repetitive announcer. 8.5/10

Value: Five different difficulties and great online co-op. What more could you want? 10/10

Onslaught is a must download. It's fun, addictive and it's only 1000 points ($10). So if you're looking for a WiiWare game, give Onslaught a try. You might just love it.
