A shame this game did not sell well, a beautiful and well made piece.

You may have heard of this game, since a lot of review sites have been giving the guilt trip, but chances are you've never played it. Which is more than just a shame. It's almost a travesty. Gamers bang on and on about how people are buying shovelware on the Wii, yet they too ignored this gem that did not fail once, but twice!!! (Those exclamation marks were necessary, thank you very much).

Basics of the plot is you Amaretsu, God(dess in Japanese legends) of the sun and you have been born into the body of a wolf to rid the world of an ancient evil, Orochi. With you is a companion named Issun, a small sword-wielding sprite that joins you so he can learn the 13 celestial brush techniques and become a great artist.

One thing I tell my friends about this game is that the graphics will never age. Unlike games which boast high-end, realistic visuals that eventually become outdated, Okami combines cell-shading with Japanese panting-styled graphics to create a look that will never grow old. On the graphics aspect, it is therefore hard to judge since you can't really top it, but the visuals were stunning and I have to say I want to see this style in more games.

Gameplay wise it bears similarities with The Legend of Zelda series. There is a lot of puzzle solving, usually with your celestial brush that allows you to paint and change the enviroment around you. While it doesn't seem to have many at the start, there even seems to be good deal of dungeons around. The normal battles tend to get repetitive but the boss battles are often unique and are quite epic.

The soundtrack is quite immersive, using a large amount of shamisen which is a Japanese instrument. There's not much else to say the soundtrack, not much of musician myself, but the music is quite good.

Overall, a brilliant game that should have gotten more attention than it did. The only issue I had with it was that my disk scratched a little so it had trouble loading sometimes, but even then it still loaded after a wait.
