Good enough for fans of the survival horror genre but everyone else probaly won't care much for Obscure the Aftermath.

User Rating: 6 | Obscure II PS2
Obscure the Aftermath takes place 2 years after the events in the first game. The story takes place at a college called Fallcreek where the students have been making a new kind of a "tea" with some strange flower. The plot in Obscure never really gets deep or really interesting and probaly won't be one of your motives to continue playing the game.
You play as 6 different characters in the game most of which of a different unique ability. Corey the whiny skater can climb to higher surfaces and scale walls. Mei , Corey's girlfriend, can hack into computers and access panels on doors. Amy can decrypt messages and put together maps. Kenny and Sven both have the same ability which moving heavy objects. Stan can pick locks and at one point you can play as a girl named Jun who can die 4 different ways.
Ussually these characters are split up into pairs for you to play with but sometimes you get a choice to choose which one you want. If you or the other character you play dies its game over and you start from your last save point. Saves point are 24 flowers spread throughout the game some of which are spaced about 30 minutes apart so if die or your partner dies if can be rather annoying.
Combat in Obscure the Aftermath is clunky with a not so helpful auto targeting system that locks on the nearest enemy and you can't manually switch the targets. It doesn't help that the camera in the game is annoying as hell and seems to be always giving you a shoddy angle to see whats in front of you. You do have some control over the camera but it doesn't help a whole lot. You also find yourself relying on melee weapons alot because there is never a whole lot of ammo for any firearms.
Puzzles in Obscure the Aftermath are pretty simple but a couple cleverly designed most noticeably the part where you get to play as Jun. The game isn't very scary at all mainly because characters don't even act scared but even if they did it would sound pretty half assed do the very terrible voice acting and dialouge. That and also the characters all aren't very interesting and fall into a stereotype. The music in Obscure the Aftermath is great and well composed and helps create a little bit of a creepy atmosphere.
Grapically Obscure the Aftermath looks pretty for a 2008 PS2 title and its still easy to see where improvements could be made. The textures in the game are in low detail, the characters could've all used more detail and have rather stiff animation and there is slow down sometimes during cutscenes.
If you have played Resident Evil games you will find that Obscure overall isn't all that challenging and it only take 7 hours at the most to beat the game. After you beat the game there isn't a whole lot of point in playing through it again because there aren't any unlockables to be find. Overall Obscure the Aftermath is a game that only old school survival horror fans could like everyone else probaly won't care too much.
